Question TM M4 Mechbox In G&G GR-16 R4?

Hey,

I have heard that you have to replace many parts of this gun out of the box and this turned me away from getting this gun until i thought of something.... I thought, why not switch the G&G mechbox with a TM one? Will it fit and work properly?

Thanks in advance,

LaZeDoUt^

yep you can use TM gearbox to replace the G&G gearbox but works best is CA gearbox.

You made my day!!!!!!!! It will probably be easier to get a TM gearbox than a CA gearbox. Will I have the same reliability with a CA gearbox as I will with a TM gearbox?

The hunt is on!

I have been hearing alot of negative things about the gearbox. I have read that $200 in parts will have to be replaced from it because they are not good parts. I dont know how true that is but I will just wait for the gearbox to blow up until I get a new gearbox.

It really depends on your particular gun. If you do buy a G&G rifle, when you get it strip it down and reassemble the mechbox, or have someone experienced do it if you're not up to it. Try out your rifle and if you develop problems then see what you should replace.

My ICS M4 was busted right out of the box, but all it needed was a decent shim job to get it going.

would'nt do that if I were you. the only part you have to change is tappet plate thus it is prone to breaking, slightly dremmel the well wall where the motor pinion meets the bevel gear because the pinion gear is slightly touching the wall, change the hop up rubber sleeve(guarder-clear or prometheus-hard type), re-calibrate the shims on the gears because some shims on the gears are tight. I you do the things I mention It will save you bucks. trust me I have a G&G GR16-R4 and it is working flawlessly. check the for sale section in the forum and see how much I put in there.

TM mechbox has more precise gear alignment.

the only problem ive heard about the G&G mechbox is that you had to change key parts to make it run smooth or just do a thorough accessment and troubleshooting the problems. i dont think you need to replace the gearbox entirely.

- change/upgrade gears (or just re-time them)
- do a proper re-shiming job
- change the GnG motor for a TM eg1000/ or upgrade to something else

and any other internals that my be hindering your AEGs performance.
you will have to know what you are doing and know how to troubleshoot your problems. to just simply switch gearboxes doesn't fix everything.

than again if your lucky. it does.

some people have more problems then others.

you can see here that the mechbox is like the pro mechboxes on the market.

there are a bunch of reviews here

http://www.airsoftunlimited.airsoftc...wtopic.php?t=4

take the time to read it so you can understand clearly what other owners of this AEG model have had to do or experienced.

Thanks alot guys. In another thread goldman sais that he thinks the problem was fixed and that it could have been that they were the first generation and now the second ones are fixed. Can anyone confirm this?

even if there was a version fix it will be hard to tell whether or not the one you get from the retailer is V1 or V2

unless they actually mark it on the box

nope not a good idea to change the stock motor to a EG1000 just like that. you can only do that if you change the stock gears. why? I did switch mine to EG's and the pinion gear stripped. It seems the stock bevel gear teeths are aligned wider. try to compare the stock motor pinion gear to a EG1000 pinion gear and see the difference.
