I'm supposing there is no means to catch the slide on empty?

Yeah pretty sure it has a normal slide catch.

You're right it locks back when out of ammo,the video doesn't show that because I only shoot at what I can hit especially when running pistol primary. I will have a long term reliability update in the future.
