mp5a5 + colt 1911 purchase guidance?
:???:
Hey fellas, I'm looking to purchase myself one or two new guns in the coming months. I've got my eyes on an mp5a5 (or similar) and a colt 1911 gbb (tactical model perhaps). Both full metal. I've been reading the threads and learned a few things about what I should be putting my money towards. For the colt, I've learned to stay away from WE brand 1911s as they are poorly made. TM 1911s seem to be the most recommended, although not full metal (from what I've gathered). KJW seems to be most recommended, just a bit more than TMs. Hicapa models also seem like a good route to go with aswel, does anyone have any recommendations for a hicapa 1911. As for the mp5a5, I've been setting my sights on an ICS full metal mp5a5 (from mach1airsoft). They appear to be well recommended and also more affordable, compared to the newer ics mx5 that seems very nice. I've read mixed reviews on TM's mp5s. I've come across CA and G&G mp5s, but haven't read to much about their quality. I'm not really interested in cheaping out on these guns, but of course, I'd like to find the most affordable models for what I'm after. Does anyone have any input on this? cheers  Last edited by vandal138; May 9th, 2011 at 09:41.. Reason: KJW addition |

I'd like some input as well. I'm looking at picking up a 1911 style pistol for CQB/outdoor FIBUA games.
From what I've gathered you can't go wrong with TM. KSC isn't that bad but I haven't really seen KSC 1911's floating around as much as say KSC Glocks. Also you heard KJW was good? I always understood it to be not that great. KWA is probably the one you want (KWA is the US distributor and now a totally separate offshoot company from KSC but as I understand it before KWA was the OEM manufacturer for KSC guns and sent their guns straight to market (US/EU) while KSC guns got an extra QC step and mainly sold to the Asia market (then supposedly there's a difference between "KSC Taiwan" and "KSC Japan" models as well). I've played with a TM and WE Hi-Capa once (well, rather I plinked with them) it's a great workhorse pistol. The guy with the WE got like 9 shots out of its mag and sometimes it would vent out all the gas so you're right in probably not going with a WE. The TM on the other hand, shot awesomely. Accurate, good on gas, and overall a pretty good workhorse pistol. AFAIK both guns were pretty much stock but they weren't mine. I was shooting cans hung up by a string in the safe zone from about 6 or 7 metres. I had no problem hitting them with either pistol with some careful aim. As for the MP5 I don't know enough about them to comment but ICS isn't that bad however I would consider other companies before ICS. That isn't to say they're crap but IMO it doesn't seem like you're getting the best bang for your buck with them (I could be wrong though since that's just my perception).

Spend your money on a TM 1911. Either stock or with a metal kit. Wont be disappointed. I bought 1 of 2 of the first TM 1911's in Canada 4-5 years ago now, its still stock, I haven't changed a single thing, and it still shoots great!
Since then Ive bought a TM 1911 Kimber Custom Covert II. Im sure you can figure out the reason

Re. 1911 and 2011 (Hicapas) and their variants (desert/shadow/etc...)...get a TM. Everything else will pale in comparison.
Re. full metal pistols...you want to aim for internal functioning, reliability and performance first...then metal second. With a Hicapa...it's as easy as swapping out the plastic slide to a quality metal slide and you're good to go. With a 1911...getting a metal slide isn't an issue but getting a metal frame might be. Re. the MP5AP...ICS ones are ok. TM are nice...but plasticy. CA ones are solid...but the internals are so-so. With any AEG...I'd go for the best wrapper (i.e. external body/fit/finish) and deal with the internals (i.e. barrel/rubber/mechbox/motor) later. Internals are easy and widely available. |

thanks for all the great info guys. Sounds like TM will be the way to go for the 1911 / 2011 hicapa. While I would like a metal body, that might be something I would upgrade later on.
I'll be staying away from TM's mp5 line and probably look into CA or even ICS for the mp5. Hopefully I'll be able to find them in a store so i can feel them instead of ordering one blindly. thanks fellas! |

I have two M1911 Government Model's, one is TM one is Western Arms. I have had the TM since 2006 and it has worked flawlessy ever since. I love it, and run i as my primary pistol. The nice thing about the TM 1911 is the abundance of aftermarket parts. Thats an import thing to look at. If it breaks can i buy parts for it? If i wann upgrade it is their parts available? Make sure its "yes"
