Question about AK's and parts

I'm thinking about buying the CQB AK seen here: http://www.007airsoft.com/products/h...rc-ak-gen3.htm (Second from the bottom). For now I'm going to be indoor only, but if I one day go outdoors, would it be possible to buy something like this: http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_i...ducts_id=29313 along with a longer barrel and make the gun playable on outdoor fields?

Just curious. Not sure if I'm overlooking something here..


Oh, one other thing.. I can't seem to find any AK's with a rail near the rear sight. How does a guy mount a red dot to one of these..?

That front end you listed is TM compatible (there's 4 screws that hold the front end onto the receiver). I don't know specifically if the SRC one will take that or not, sorry.

Either side mount (comes up from the left side of the gun and hangs over the top), or on a railed gas tube cover (as in the pic of the little one you mentioned), or replace the rear sight with a adaptor that allows you to mount a doctor sight.

Oh, and with a folding stock, where does the battery go? Front grip?

No, SOME do. If it has a full stock then chances are that's where the battery is.

Without a full stock you'd need a stick type mini battery to put under the dust cover of the receiver.

I'm actually looking at that particualr one myself (along with some other AKS74u's). Why would you need a longer barrel for outdoor play anyway?

And do you guys have any specific rear mounts in mind? I couldnt really find any, but then again im a newb.

XZIVR, Where do you plan on playing outdoors? Thats a great gun for indoors at Trek, but most of the outdoor fields it will be fine too. Places like Weekend Warriors and Bragg Creek Paintball dont have really long enagement distances so that gun in its stock form will be fine. Come out to a few outdoor games and try it out before you spend the money on a new front end.

I play with an AKS74U (about the same length barrel) and it rocks outdoors.

You won't need that kit. Barrel length actually doesn't matter THAT much.

Don't waste your time putting that front end on the SRC. And in response to the debate going on here, SRC AEGs are clones of TM AEGs, so that front will definitely fit. They only differ once you start getting into blowback models, TM stayed electric while SRC went gas and both designs changed.

You won't need the longer barrel as long as you have decent compression being created by your gearbox, i.e. steady air flow out of the nozzle, a good hop up and bucking and a good tight bore barrel. Marry those together properly and unless you're planning on being a sniper, you won't need to worry. Plus, it's fun to hear/see people's reactions when they get dinged by some guy playing on an outdoor field with a CQB weapon.

And as for a rail near the rear sight you've got a couple of options. The most common is the side rail, but that involves permanent modification to your receiver, something not advised if you've never used a drill before or should be a contestant on Canada's Worst Handyman.

Your other option is replacing the rear sight with a rail. Here's 2 models

The second one won't work on the SRC you linked to your post though cause it only really mounts on AKs with full rear stocks. Great part about it is though that it adds a lot of rigidity to your AK. Full stock models tend not to be all that durable, IMOP.
