Airsoft Prices - Should it be going down?

You've likely heard about the price of automobiles going down on this side of the border due to the strength of the canadian dollar. And the way the US is moving, it is likely that the parity will remain for a while.

Now for our hobby, how much impact does this parity have the price of airsoft? Should there be an adjustment made? What are your thoughts on this?

Supply and demand plays a factor, but the most important one is importing restrictions. If you cant get the supply in you cant sell it.

The price has been going down. You can now get Real Swords for half the price of two years ago. But if it has to do with anything, it's the Canadian dollar vs. the HKD and the Taiwanese Dollar. The U.S. Market and Canadian Markets are hardly connected when it comes to Airsoft, an anomaly in any industry.

Supply and demand has got to be keeping the prices up...i mean looking at redwolf and ehobby, the comparative prices are like 35 to 40% more over here! In reading the ol q&a, a lot of the sellers have gone down and may still be the case? if so, got to be supply and demand.

Prices are way down. Depending on the year, I spent above twice the price on some guns.

Also, prices are better in the classifieds.

I would say that prices have gone down because of the safesoft iniciative.

I know many people who have seen their entire investment portfolio severely deflated in the last year.

Our prices remain high not just from supply/demand, but what it costs to import items from Asia into Canada as opposed to importing from Asia into the USA.
Our import taxes and fees are almost double what the US pays to import from the same source. Until that changes, we won't see significantly lower prices.

Yup. I'd say in the last year or so my airsoft collection has dropped in value by 40% or more.

I advise that folks carry an array of gas block back pistols. rifles, and SMGs along with high quality AEGs that are all well kept and in working order. That gives a small hedge against fluctuations.

At no time should anything clear sully your hands and low quality plastic copies should only be considered as a last resort instead of an achievement upon acquisition. Those should never be photographed and posted online.

Prices are super down!

You look at Chinese retailers and compare with Canadian! Canadians have to pay sales tax (the chinese don't charge that) and duty to get the guns into the country. 5% Gst and 7% import duty. There is 12% there.

Then hire a freight forwarder to get it from China to Canada, do customs brokerage, etc. , etc.

If prices are only 35-40% higher, those retailers are hardly making any money.

If you go to Hong Kong or Japan you can get those guns for 40% less.

Lobsters are $6 per pound here in Nova Scotia, but are $40 per pound in Japan and Hong Kong. Maybe they should be the same price halfway around the world!!

Another fallacy. Halifax Army/Navy store is the pioneer in airsoft importation, they just didn't toot their own horn about it. They have just gone about their business selling aeg's and gbb's since long before "safesoft"! and Halifax A/N has lower prices than "safesoft" affiliates.
