Is it worth doing the Sorbo Pad?
Its pretty much winter time here in Ontario, probably not as much as those in the west . I'm worried my V2 gearbox may crack (classic army M16a1 X series), is it worth installing a Sorbo Pad for the Cylinder Head to prevent cracking the mechbox.
I'm guessing it might be around -13 if I play. Also I'm using a 400 FPS spring. |

Don't just do a sorbo pad.
While you're in there replace; full clylinder head with; ARS MASK 2G Cylinder head ARS MASK 3G Piston head Tokyo Marui Piston Body (to get rid of that awful CA piston) And a Prometheus airseal nozzle also, get someone that knows what they're doing to do it. A bit of modification is required on the piston to insure proper AOE |

We've played for a couple hours in -23 c (without wind chill) and had no issues with our reinforced V2 boxes (metal bodies and large batts, semi only, and take as few shots as necessary).....BUT, we've also seen 18 AEGs go down at a winter game at just -7 c.
But, for die hard winter players I'd recommend the following; -I would strongly recommend the Mask sorbo piston/cylinder head set. -I also advise using the softest hop up bucking you can find (a frozen bucking kills your range, especially with the harder types). -Try to avoid running higher than M100 springs (higher fps means higher stress on the box). -Avoid using LiPo and full auto select fire (increased ROF will increase the risk of box breaking apart). -Avoid using mini style batteries (cold temps sucks the power right out of them, and you'll be changing batteries with every mag change). These are basically good guidelines, but there are always badly cast boxes, and there are always well built AEGs....so no guarantees. **Winter games are not advised for players using plastic bodies and/or TM quality (non reinforced) mech boxes. The plastic becomes very brittle (as it contracts in the cold) and non reinforced V2 boxes will see the front end blow off. SHA DO

So since I only have the Cylinder Head pad I should basically get the piston head pad as well?

A good tech told me you can sand down some corners on the V2 shell to prevent it from breaking. Yes, sounds odd, but should work. Maybe i can get a pic.

It doesn't completely prevent it but putting a radius in the sharp 90 degree corners will help alleviate the stress. A cheap box will still break, just a matter of when.

Up front where the cylinder goes is where the box will break. The corners of the cylinder hole can be rounded to lessen the chance of a crack developing there.

To answer your question in one word.
Yes. but a sorbo alone will not prevent your box from breaking. It is just one thing you can do to reduce your chances.

yea, it looks like the piston is being caught then released. Did you check to see how the sector gear contacted the piston teeth before re-assembling? |
