G&G MP5 A4 "MAX" Review

Well, where to begin?

Yes! Thats right! My first review here, so please take it easy on me.

Today we will be looking at my newly acquired MP5 A4 "MAX" version that all the kiddies have probably been raging about.

Retailer Impressions
Where to start... Awesome. That would be the correct word for the speediness and great customer service I received. I ordered the gun from a retailer that is well known for their sh*tty service.

If you haven't guessed it; it was BuyAirsoft. They were great. I ordered the gun on a Thursday night, and had it in my hands Monday afternoon.


Box

Well, it was cardboard and styrofoam. What more do you people want to know?!

All 'Ha Ha' aside, the box was very nice. An old saying goes "Don't judge a book by its cover".. Well when I first seen the box I automatically giggled like a schoolgirl and said to myself "This is going to be hot."

Upon opening the box you get whats expected, a cleaning rod, a High-capacity magazine, a package of approx. 200 G&G BBs. Also included was a two color LED Charger (Red/Charging, Green/Charged), a 9.6V 1400mAH battery, a pair of nice safety glasses, 'downgrade spring', and a MP5 Claw mount for your Red dot sights.

OH, did I mention the gun?

First Impressions

Well, Im an Armalite guy, but this gun was a very welcoming surprise. Solid, lite, but, not to lite to make it feel cheap. Its also very maneuverable. The textures are very nice, and give the gun a very good feel. Something you should expect from a G&G.

Internals

Well, Im not much of an internal wiz, but, it shoots straight, has a decent ROF with the 'High Powered Spring' in it, and sounds nice. The hop-up is plastic, but seems decent in its stock form, I fiddled with it for no more then 5 minutes. I had it shooting perfectly straight. More on the internals later.

Later meaning, when something fails, ill finish up the internals section of this review.


Externals

Well, I have to admit this was the part of the review I was waiting for: The externals.

Where to start. Nice, nice, nice.. Oh, and very nice. This gun is ROCK-SOLID, apart from the slight side-to-side movement in the hand-guard, which I would assume could be fixed by the High-Tech usage of Duct-tape, or electrical tape to shim.

All the plastic on this gun is clearly not cheap. When you hear people saying that G&G could have some of the best plastics used on their mid to high end guns, they are not lying. When feeling the textures of the plastics, it feels so good that you could just imagine yourself holding the real firearm.

COOL FEATURE

I didn't mention this already, did I? It has a TOOL-LESS disassembly. Thats right, pop out the 2 push pins, slide off the stock, slide the upper off the lower, and you broken it down to the mechbox. Of course for the rest of the way digging into the lower, you'll need some tools.

Now what all you little kiddies are waiting for.. WUTS MEETAL!1?

The metal parts consist of:

Fire Selector Switch
Upper Receiver/Gas Tube (Charging tube[If someone knows the correct terminology, please correct me])
Front Sight
Rear Sight (As its part of the upper receiver)
Trigger
Push-Out Pins
Charging handle
Fake bolt assembly

Why don't I just name the plastic parts instead? Stock, Lower Receiver, Hand-guard. That was much easier for me to write, and much easier for you to read, wasn't it? Although, it doesn't make a difference because I wrote it already.

The Hop-Up adjustment is a sliding system, much like the design of the Kalashnikov series Hop-Up. Just like most Hop-Up systems, its located underneath the fake bolt which is accessed by pulling the charging handle back, and locking it up.

The spring behind the fake bolt system is quite a downer and is very weak.

That leads to another thing; The 'HK Slap'. A lot of people like to do this with their MP5s, but end up breaking the charging handle. Well, you can do it as much as you like on the G&G. Instead of the charging handle itself slamming forward to stop, the screw off cap on the front of the Charging handle tube stops the charging handle itself from hitting the end of its track, and puts most of the stress on the big hunk of metal of which I call the charging rod. Good job people at G&G!

One thing I did find was a downer.. It only accepts G&G Hand-guards.

So what would I give this gun out of my own personal rating?

Well since I only had the gun for two days, and only put about 2-3k BBs through it...

It gets a 7.5 out of 10!

The score would be higher if I could split my mechbox to see the insides so I could rate them.

Pros:
Its a G&G
What should be metal, IS metal
Includes a "Downgraded spring" to swap out
Probably the best feeling plastics on an airsoft gun that I have felt
Claw mount IS included
Battery/Charger IS included, although they may not last long

Cons:
Price
A little wobble/wiggle in the hand-guard
Some parts may be proprietary like the hand-guard

Thats it folks. Please, critic me, I don't mind any positive help to make future improvements. If its negative in a verbally harmful way, please, keep it to yourself.

Question: what makes the handguard proprietary?

It fits via a bracket on the bottom of the handguard that clips into the bottom of the reciever instead of the two tabs on the side of the handguard that fit into corrosponding slots in the body. With careful machining, you could modify the MAX body to fit a regular AEG handguard, though I've just removed the tabs on the handguard and it fits tightly if you glue in a spacer (I used some sheet rubber).

Thank you for the review. I was considering getting one of these as an upgrade to my JG
after reading it i think i'm seriously going to consider getting one of these.
I got one of those G+P handguards with the taclight and pressure switch on it. that probably wont fit unless I do some modding.. correct?
