Well I don't know if this is safe for airsoft but..... there is a product called "CLP" (Cleaner Lubricant Protector) that people use on their real steel to strip paint but I would try it in an inconspicuous area of the gun first.

Otherwise I believe brake fluid (DOT 3 Brake Fluid is the one that everyone uses for this) is another one that is OK for plastic (old hobby shop trick that people use for a lot of models (trains, tanks, planes, etc.)). Basically dip it in brake fluid for a bit and use a hard brush (ie. a steel brush) to strip off the paint.

Going along with the uncertainty, lighter fluid works pretty well in removing old paint, or just plain old paint thinner. Extreme caution is advised, both are highly flammable and very hazardous if used wrongly

if you are going to repaint it you could always just sand it to smooth it out and repaint

Find yourself a can of Testors "ELO" (easy Lift Off)
It's made specifically for stripping paint off plastic models.
I've used it on Plastic and Metal AEGs and parts... Works Great and it won't damage any plastic or metal.
Takes some time to get all the paint off though.
You should be able to find it at your local hobby shop

What I have used is easy off oven spray! Works great on plastics, dont use it if its aluminum. Basically, spray on let it sit for 20 min and brush off with an old tooth brush etc.

The key here is if you intend on repainting it, remove all the paint. Then completely rinse the item. Then clean it with denatured alcohol to de-grease it. Rinse again, prime and paint.

Stupid question here guys, I painted a few pistols, I usually just put two coats of paint on it, but should I also put a sealant spray to finish the job?
