Taking apart AEG for the first time
So I finally have myself a g&g UMG and i'd really like to just clean it up and remove gunk buildup etc. (if there is any right now i can't see it)
heres the thing, all I have is the gun, a battery and 2 mags. I dont have any proper stuff like a cleaning rod or silicone oil whatever it is. Theres a video on youtube that shows you step by step how to take it apart completely. I've read that one of the most important things to do is clean the barrel the bb passes down. I plan to just train some qtips down it. Is there any chemical/oil i should avoid using? I've read to stay away from wd-40. I've already used goo-gone to wipe down the gun and take off any dirt build up etc. I dont have a charger so i can't test the gun and its my first AEG so this is all very new to me and it bothers me its just sitting on my coffee table right now lonely |

A general place for newbies to head to is http://mechbox.com/
They have everything and more you should know about basic maintenance along with some visual guides for you to take reference from. I would really suggest you do get in contact with a local gunsmith or someone that knows what they're doing. Its a worlds difference to learn from another individual than a video online. Best of luck. Edit : Though, I'd wait until you get the thing firing before you start picking away at it. Unless there are notable problems with the gun, i'd avoid picking it apart, or you'll never know if it worked in the first place. I've done this a few times, not a fun mistake. AEG's can go on for a long time (Depending on the brand) without being picked apart. Mainly TM's i've found. |

Since your AEG did not come with a cleaning rod, a good investment would be to pick up a real steel gun cleaning kit. Something along the lines of this:
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en Albeit you may need to find something with a smaller diameter cleaning rod if required. And then refer to this thread! http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=95496

Perhaps you could borrow a cleaning rod from a fellow local player?

Perhaps you could source some extra long medical grade Qtips? A UMG inner barrel is only about 205mm and I believe you maybe be able to do everything with one of those super extra long Qtips they use to swab a cervix during a papsmear....I dont know why I went there...lets pretend that instead of cervix I said cheek and instead of papsmear I said DNA cheek swab.

Wait a minute...they use qtips to do that? I thought it was one of those wooden things they put on your tongue! GREAT SCOTT MARTY!
The barrel comes off tho no? I figure its just like a tube I can push something through to clean it. I bought the AEG from the forums and he said it was stock. Im hoping I can just go to any site selling a UMG and see what the internals are. Like type 3gear box what size barrel. I was so relieve to see that the battery he sent with it had writing of what it was on it I'd like to start looking at some upgrades that work with it. So if anyone out there reading this has a UMG and can help me out give me a shout, i realized soon enough that this isn't an aeg that very many people have. |

Version 3 gearbox, shouldn't be much different than any other V3.

Lucy in the sky with diamonds?
I was just taking a look at one of the mags when i was convinced it was loaded..I noticed that there was a spring lever over what looked like a white bb. 15 rounds to the middle of my face later, i walked around frantic snorting because i was convinced one bb went up my nostril and got lost in my skull |

hi
I use a shoe lace (actually a skate lace) crazy glued to a straightened out wire (like a coat hanger) snip the end of the lace some glue on the inside of the lace structure then insert your wire let it dry...or push the lace through with the wire either or. you can buy gun grease for about $11 from a airsoft store or you can use lithium grease. A tip from a fellow ASofter it comes in a yellow tube with black ends called LU Max from cdn tire for about 2.50. use with a qtip try not to use too much and gunk it up. These alternatives have worked for me. |

Im on the Macgyver tip myself. I used to watch it everyday when i came home for lunch. The intro to the show was great. Quick! Name 5 Peter Weller movies without looking it up! Robocop 1&2 only count as 1. Andddddd GO! |
