TK twist barrel cutting?

has anyone tried to do a custom length TK twist barrel?

what I'd like do is get a 430 mm twist barrel for a VSR10 .. cut what i need for a custom fit in a TM MK23 project. then will the left over length , file/notch/cut/swear at .. to fit it into a MP7 AEP

just wondering what I should expect with cutting a twist barrel (namely the twist grooves). I have cut barrels before with great success so I understand that part... just the TK's aren't normal

so yeah has this been done? or am I the guinea pig?

Why would u never recommend cutting a barrels its just a cylinder..... If you brought it to a machine shop it would take all of 2 seconds to cut it to length and properly mill the notch in. The extra work is going to come into to cleaning the burrs in the twists but nothing a mini file can't do with patience.

they have a coating on them, and if you chip it it will affect the BBs path as it leave the barrel

Oh, missed that part. But yea, if you do get it cut, take it to a gunshop like you said. If you try to do it yourself at all, you will probably end up warping it due to clamping or even just the pressure of hand cutting, not to mention chipping etc. I'm not sure why you wouldn't just buy two TK twist barrels that are the proper length instead of the headache of cutting them.

-Off topic- Why does a VSR length Twist barrel even exist? A sniper with low enough FPS for the barrel to matter wouldn't be much of a sniper, and have no upper hand over AEGs

I would if I was in Japan where my BA rifle can't shoot at 500...

yeah I was thinking 2 barrels... but I've never seen one for an AEP (that would be the main experiment) .. and yeah the VSR barrel the notchs fit the MK23 and it lets me choose the exact length I want. and I'll have enough left over for the experiment on the AEP.

and yeah the twist barrels are made for the japan market's low FPS.

oh well guess I get to play guinea pig if you listen closely you'll probabaly hear me swearing at doing the fitment for the mp7 AEP ...LOL

Use a lathe...and a sharp tool bit.

You will have issues with chipping the finish.

You're better off going with a non-coated barrel if you're going to cut it.

just use a pipe cutter. they make small ones that would do a clean cut on the barrel without any burrs like a saw would. you dont need to clamp it or anything, just spin the cutter around the barrel a few times

They also chip the finish >.>

TK's are NOT normal barrels, unless you actually have experience with TK's and understand em, dont suggest modifications to them.

These are COATED barrels, that coating chips and cannot be cleanly cut with conventional tools
