field fps and ammo
just a quick question here to verify my assumptions, i notice when it comes to games being posted there is always an fps limit listed for the game, and sometimes an fps limit associated to a bb weight such as 350 fps with .2 bb's
now for the most part i see only the .2 bb's being listed but some games dont list a weight just say the fps limit, my assumption is taht anytime a fps limit is posted for a game it is ALWAYS refering to the fps with a .2 bb, is taht correct?? is taht the standard for measuring fps?? also a lil unclear about games and ammo, my assumption is taht you bring your own bb's for the game, and you can bring whatever weight bb's you like to use(as long as your gun meets the fps limits with the .2 bb's), but then i did notice one game where the host did specify bring your own bb's so i started to think maybe for all other games you actually need to buy bb's at the filed, just like with paintball, so i just wanted clarification on how taht works, is it bring your own bb's to a game and whatever weight you like to use, as long as nothing is specified by the host, or do you generally have to purchase bb's at teh field??? |

Correct...assume any posted FPS limits are measured with 0.20g BBs.
You bring your own ammo to most every game. Even if you're going to shoot 0.25/0.28/0.30/etc...if the host wants to chrony every gun, then they'll usually provide 0.20's (if they're smart) for enough shots to measure (just need 5-10 per rifle). Some games they're not so well prepared and so guestimate what a XXX fps rifle shooting 0.25's will shoot with 0.20's. Kind of half assed if you ask me. Some will have a grid/table of what FPS is the max for what BB weight....smart idea, but I've only seen this used once. Some games (very few that I know of) will require you to use the fields ammo. This may be because of stringent conditions or peace of mind for the land owner. They'll typically require you to use their biodegradable ammo...that they've cleared with the land owner. These games are the minority. So...simply...measure/confirm your FPS with 0.20's...then there's no guessing at what it shoots. Bring whatever BB weight you want to use to the game. Listen closely to the host...abide by whatever conditions they and the land owner require you to adhere to. Tys |

there are certain fields where the owner has specified that you must you their BB's. ie the one in London (Adrenalin)
as well as specific games that the ammo used will be provided as part of the game scenario |

Funny that someone posted that, I have done some maths yesterday regarding that and here are the results:
350 FPS with 0.2 = 314 FPS with 0.25 400 FPS with 0.2 = 358 FPS with 0.25, 339 FPS with 0.28 or 328 FPS with 0.30 |

There might not be good reason, but I don't "trust" calculations...
from a bunch of tests that I did (a while ago)...there was less of a drop going from 0.20's to 0.25's...and more of a drop in FPS from 0.20's to 0.28/0.30's than what you calculated. * chronies can be off a bit too...it's not like they are super high precision pieces of equipment. Cutting through all the "I calc this...but I shot that"...if people just chrony with 0.20's there's no ifs ands or buts. and as long as the host decides to a method/number and sticks with it...that's what it is, no matter how right or wrong it is. |

for example, I know that one of my rifles chrony's at 330fps with .25's I know that I will be sub 400fpson .2's which is a field limit here but I still don't know what my gun actually shoots. I just know that I'm below the field limit and can pass the chrony without issue (but actually chrony's at an average of 380fps on .2's) |

The safest way is finding with an equation and testing with a chrony. It is a mathematic formula with a given number of Joules that will give you the FPS in relation with the weight of the BB. You use that number in relation with the chrony and you are good to go.
My chrony can test both 0.2 and 0.25. So I know that for CQB in aiming for 314 FPS with .25 that's it. The same number of joule 1.14 joule than a 0.2 BB going at 350 FPS. |
