Motor connector/pins

Anyone know a video or tips on how to connect the motor connectors/pins to the wires?? Do you just fold down the 2 arcs onto the wires?

And a little solder if you want a better connection.

Do you just fold down the two plates from the side so that hold down the wire (and add a lil bit of solder) ?

What I do is basically tin the wire, then put it on the connector and crimp, then heat the connector to melt the solder which solders them together for the best connection.

^What he said.
I fold mine to not quite a 90 degree angle so the tin doesn't drip over the folding edge and screw it up.

My motor connection pins jiggle loose during regular play, causing gun failure, soldering them on seems like a good idea but what about getting them off again for getting into the mechbox?

Desolder them? Just hold the soldering iron to the soldered connection, and pull it off when the solder melts...

That won't work if they are crimped.

Where did he mention crimping them?

He asked how to remove soldered connectors, I told him.

Not everyone wires motors with the gold connectors (though I find it preferable), I've seen many guns with the wires soldered straight to the motor.

wouldn't that still provide a better connection than gold connectors?
Although soldering the motor onto a V2 is a bitch.

I also don't recommend it. Technically you're providing a better connection, but its overkill. Soldering a motor connections when the motor is caged is perfectly fine, but a V3 or V2 where the motor is free in the grip... I don't recommend it. It was said above, take the connectors off, close them a fraction with a pair of pliers, and push them back onto the motor with the pliers.

If you can attach or remove the connectors easily, or with your fingers easily, they need to be tightened.

do NOT solder wires to the motor for an M4

it will be a royal pain in the ass when assembling/disassembling. The benefit is NOT worth the cost.

Like was said, if you want to do that, desolder then resolder. It's not that much work if you want to go that route.

If you've got a good hot soldering iron and measure out your wiring correctly, there's no issue with soldering any motor to any wiring. But it needs to be done right.

I don't usually solder wires directly to motor terminals...not really necessary.

I do solder wires to motor connectors (after crimping...before shrink wrapping).

I press fit, and adjust if necessary, the "tightness" of the motor connectors to the terminals before I put it together in a grip...it's easier to handle and saves problems down the road.

If motor connectors are worn out (more often than not they're mangled by guys putting them on and taking them off)....I just swap them. If they've buggered the wiring so much so that there's not enough to run the wires nicely...then you've got to rewire the mechbox.
