A lot of AEGs having operational cocking levers/action locks (some times to access the hop-up), but from what I've read playing with them tends to lead to breaking them rather quickly (e.g. slapping an HK bolt).

And there's nothing wrong with m14's . If you don't want the classic 'long rifle' look, there's a CQB version that's several inches shorter and looks quite bad-ass.

As far as upgrading options, what you want to look at is the mech box version (i.e. version 1,2,3, etc). V2 and V3 will have the most upgrade options, but you really just have to look at and upgrade list and match version to version.

Of course, this is all theoretical advice from one noob to another, as it's only based off reading and not actual experience.

My best advice regarding upgrades is to check out the stickied thread in the Upgrades and Modifications forum called "When to upgrade and when not to" (or something very similar to that). It will basically answer every low-level upgrade question you could have!

By "slide lock" I mean, when you pull the --cocking lever, is it?-- back, can you let go with out it slamming forward? On the real steel, it does and you push a little lever on the side of the gun and it releases.

Also I'm assuming that the m14 is more accurate than the m4? What about m16 compared to m4? I didn't think the whole longer barrel = more accuracy rule applied to airsoft taking into account that there is no rifleing, bullet weight and velocity.

I'm pretty sure that's on handguns, they've got slide release levers. I don't know about you, but I've only heard of the Mp5, and the AUG being able to do that because you lock the slides in place by pushing them behind something, as for other guns, the bolt just comes right back.

You mean a bolt catch? The only airsoft gun I know the models a funtioning bolt catch it the L85.

Barrel length does apply in airsoft. An M14/M16 is going to be inherently more accurate than an M4, especially with a tightbore barrel.

The G3 and G36 do it as well, not sure about others.

It will in full-auto ha ha. Don't expect airsoft guns to be as accurate as can be. Theirs plenty of things to consider when talking about accuracy. The of BB's can play a huge facter aswell. An M16 does have a considerably longer barrel then an M4 which will increase your accuracy at larger distances, shorter distances you really wont notice a difference.

I believe some King Arms made metal bodies for the armalite series have simulated locking back function for the bolt catch area thing-a-madoo.

If your worried about accuracey, get a tightbore and ugprade the hop up, that should tighten your grouping, its the easiest upgrade and can even be performed with by someone with little to know gun experiance since you dont have to open the mechbox.

If you wanted something accurate after 30 or 40 yards, you probly should be looking at a pellet gun or a 22. cal or something. Honestly I think you be fine with the m4 for 25-35 yards, its an assault rifle not a sniper rifle. What am I kidding, its spring driven piston that pushes BBs with air. How you want it to look is up to you. Get an m16, the barrel should be longer unless the company cheaped out and used an m4 length inner barrel. Longer barrel should give you a little better accuracey.

lol, an airsoft gun isn't a real gun man. It won't be anywhere near as accurate.

So i'm pretty sure that I am going to purchase the classic army m15a4 (crane stock). I am almost clueless on battery types. I would like a good battery around $20USD, probably 8.4v. Also a good charger (I don't need a $30 smart charger, I'll buy that later).

So basically I need something with ok quality that wil last a while until I have the $$$ to buy a new battery/charger. Thanks.

Well, since you have a classic army crane stock you might as well get a classic army battery crane stock battery. Im sure you can contact CA or some retailer to find one.

Dont cheap out on your battery and chargers, its insulting to your AEG. Its like buying a sports car and trying to run it on a low octane gas. Spring for a decent battery, its going to be closer to maybe 40-50 USD.

Get a good charger now, its totally worth it.

Im sure you can find something like that in your country, but if you have to cheap out go to an electronics store, or radio shack, circuit city whatever you have down there and just buy one of those cheap ass dumb chargers thats simply a wall plug and wire head. Kinda looks like one of these minus the redthing

if your getting ann battery charer pack get the one from bb bastard but im not sure if they do crane stock batts...
