My questions is besides the last shot lock out (i really don't care about that) how would a PTW compare to a full metal M4 with a pro-win mech box in it?

Now I understand you get close to the cost of the PTW if you buy this retail, but what I am doing is I have been slowly building a M4 off of parts I scrounge or get in a deal.
I now have a complete armalite except front end (which I will be able to get for around $125) and I am in to this thing currently under $400 including the mechbox. So soon i hope to have a very reliable M4 FMU for under $600. Which isn't a far step from how much you are selling your PTW.

PS if the PTW is the end-all-be-all AEG why are you selling yours? not trying to be a dick just wondering.

I have more than 1 PTW, and will buy another when the M16A3 sells. They don't compare to any standard AEG, regardless of the parts inside.

Systema uses 7 hardened gears in the gear train vs. 3 in any other AEG. 5 of these gears are in a planteray arrangement. They can take an M130 at 900 rounds/min in Ver 1-3 and M150 in the MAX PTWs. The parts are all mil-spec quality, from the barrel to butt. You can swap cylinders in 15 seconds or less, with the cylinders themselves being machined steel. There is no pot-metal in these guns, no zinc alloys and very little plastic. The receivers are CNC aluminum, just like a real AR. The mags have followers built in so the gun detects the last round, and they are the correct weight and dimensions (so your nice real kit fits them properly).

Steel parts are Parkerized, like real steel. Guards are fibre, not plastic. Weld spring is tough, just like my real AR.

You can build a Marui M4 into a full metal gun with the best quality parts and spend $2000 no problem. But you won't have all parts precisely engineered to work together, so you are going to have issues. You will be mixing and matching to get the best compromise, you will not have the features of a PTW no matter how hard you try, nor will you get the performance. This is why Systema has chosen to build a gun in the first place and why owners become quick converts.

The picture at the top of the open PTW should say it all. And that's a Ver 1 or 2 and not the MAX.

To be honest unless you want the ultimate real exp then i'd go for a more affordable option, if you really crave the functions of a real steel model, get yourself into the military. Its airsoft...i know its an expensive sport and all but to pay that kind of money for what is esentially a toy...not my cup of tea, i'd rather spend the money on weed and beer...

Wey should have his in a week or so, so you will see what I mean.

Besides, Cuba is just a bunch of bearded Commies anyways!!! You can always snuggle your PTW when your wife sends you to the couch.

Anyone doing the PTW thing prolly already has done the more affordable options in the past. Even TM guns are not exactly 1:1 of the real armalites. The PTW is exactly the same dimensions. Thats a huge plus for many people.
The PTW can use all real parts also. No airsoft front end needed...all real steel parts can be used.

Its not for everyone, but those who are sick of the bullshit with AEGs really cream over the PTW due to its reliability and performance. You never have to worry about gears getting chewed, pistons stripping or mechbox cracking. Ever. No need to worry about any of the hundreds of mix and match parts on a standard AEG.

personally I'm with pip yes the PTW is the shit and the god of all AEG's but really does someone need to drop 2.2k on 1 gun? thats stock?

for 2.2k i can buy my CA-SG1, get the parts and accessories i want for it and still have money left over to buy my USP the parts and the rail converter. then still have some cash for beers like. quoting pip "i know its an expensive sport and all but to pay that kind of money for what is essentially a toy" i could buy a RS M16 with that kind of money and i would rather do that.

I dunno, if i had the cash burning a hole in my pocket then sure, but how many of us have that sort of cash just lying around not doing anything? I've lost count how much i've spent on airsoft since i bought my first gun, but its well over 2.5 grand, and if i was going the PTW route, i'd just have bought my gun. Right now i've got an m14, an ak74, hi-capa and a glock on the way and gear galore...just makes no sense to shell out the cash for a PTW unless you have tried a fair number of guns and know that you want more.

But hey, to each his own right? I'd rather have a few guns with the ability to choose what i want to play with, rather than have the god of all airsoft, but it being my only toy to play with.

Droc, I loved the last shot of the Swede's vid. How many guns can go full auto on a pressurized beer can and blow it to shit? And do it at 15 rnds/sec?

For those who had any doubts on build quality or performance, if you aren't convinced by those vids, you need to quit smoking pot and have your head examined.

Just the sound of it firing is making me think about changing my vote. The gearing is the next thing that I didn't realize was completely overhauled. However the one thing I knew it did was that you can crack it down like a real armalite and that was the biggest feature I thought. I do like the idea of swapping out firing chambers and having multiple FPS levels. I know you can do this with ICS, however I still read some places of people having issues with ICS's mechboxes, where they can jump around a little inside.

But just the sound of that gun is changing my mind completely on this. It doesn't sound like a whiney piglet. It has a more resounding "pop" to it while firing and just seems a more satisfying sound.

well, doing it with the ICS split mechbox is a totally different thing. Its still hard as hell to get in and out(same way trying to get a normal mechbox into the upper receiver isn't always an easy task). and it is held in position by pins, and same deal with a regular armalite mechbox, getting the pins in can be easy, or a nightmare. And like you said, many people have issues with things not syncing up properly and alot of chewing or jamming going on.
Its a neat idea, but the Systema cylinder swamp is crazy easy and simple.

for some good PTW info http://www.systema-ptw.com/Default2.aspx

and more specifically http://www.systema-ptw.com/Info.aspx
