ICS Gear Position

I've got a ICS M4 with the split mechbox. I was reading through the manual on how to change my cylinder when I noticed a part that said "Have the gun in semi and check gear positioning". it shows a picture with the smooth side of the gear on top but mine still has the gears half showing. Is this a problem or is there a way to fix this by rotating it.

I thought about trying to fire it with the gearbox open to turn the gear but decided against it due to the fact that I don't want to f*** anything up. Keep in mind that I know very little about how these things work. Worst comes to worst I take it to my local gun doc.

Thanks

Fire it with it open until you get the gears in the right position.

If you don't and close the mechbox with the gear teeth up, you could seriously fuck up your piston.

Actually when closing the upper with the teeth up it wont close and will just mar your piston really well.. I suggest holding the anti reversal forward and put it on full auto and squeeze it a couple times till its smooth side up.. WOrks for me..

Its in the Manual

For the ICS M4 CQB (I am selling :P)

The gear teeth have to face completely downwards or the spring guide (If it is not metal)

Will break

Good advice.
I find that you should also make sure you press the forward assist before opening the receiver, i didnt once or twice and was treated to a nice WHIRRRR sound as the tension was released quickly.

You also can spin them backward. It take quite a lot of force, but nothing get's damaged by doing it.
