I managed to mod battery space to fit 8.4V 1650Mah (AA bats) custom made stick battery by cutting parts off from front piece and cutting plastic off from tray little by little until I had enough space. It's pretty hard to explain but it's possible. I ended up with about 70% of the tray and half of front piece left at the end.
P.S My battery pack came from http://www.onlybatterypacks.com/ I just ordered it and tried the mod. It ended up working out at the end.
