Aftermarket CADPAT Combats and Helmet Question.

Hey all-

A friend of mine, who’s currently in the Sandbox right now, asked me if I wanted to do a CF kit an I said sure, but not having any kit, I started doing research. I’ve been searching the Internet for sometime now, trying to get some pointers on what gear to use for a CF kit and thought I’d go to the source. I’m not new to the sport, just located down in Virginia, where the CVN I’m on is currently in the yards.

Anyway, cut to the chase. I’ve been debating whether or not to order myself DZ’s Ops pants and shirt or to get a set of Combats from Seal Action Gear. Yes, there’s a significant price difference between the two items, but that’s not an issue as I’d rather spend the money up front on something good and not worry about it falling to pieces, than to buy what I should have once the cheaper stuff falls to pieces. I’ve heard/read good things about DZ’s line of clothing in Multicam, and I’m rather impressed and I’m planning on ordering one of their recce smocks.

Additionally, I’m wondering if a replica MICH 2000 with a cover would be a decent substitute for the Gallet helmet that is issued? I’ve no need for something with ballistic properties, and if the lid looks 90% accurate, I’ll call it sat.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated, as I’d like to have as accurate a kit as possible (I do Falklands-era Parachute Regiment living history in my spare time).

Gives a decent overview of most of the gear Canadian soldiers currently use.

A MICH 2000 helmet with a CADPAT cover will work fine
As for the uniform, I know Drop Zone makes quality stuff an you shouldn't have the problem of it falling apart.

But I've never bought or used any of their stuff or any the uniforms that Seals Action Gear sells.

Seals has good gear, however over priced it is. On the other hand though, drop zone I've heard has good gear that is reliable. I have two sets of multi cam bdu's one from Seals and one Truspec. I actually like the truspec ones a little more, although the shirt isnt as nice. Its pretty much a decision on which set you want to buy. Some stuff out there is actually better than issue, so try your luck and good luck

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm going to wait upon the email before making my move. Also, from what I can gather, the issue vest is pants, and it's suggested that Tiger Tactical be the way to go. I was wondering about ICE Tactical as another source of gear, but unless the wait has died down, I think I'll go via the TT route.

I have the Dropzone bdu's and they kick ass. As for an issued tacvest they are avaliable though not cheap. There are aftermarket ones that are close replicas to the issued tacvest avaliable on ebay and most surplus stores up here and goes for usually ~$100. Tiger tactical is awsome for custom gear and I can highly reccomend them as I own a vest from them. Ebay is full of cadpat. Also check out ArmyIssue here on the boards. He has shitloads of cadpat as well.

I went with a DZ ops top and some repro bottoms because of the price. Getting yourself some modular cadpat pouches and an od base rig (like a tt mav) is probably the best route to go. Go check out daves surplus https://dstactical.com/ for alot of great cad options , most of the stuff they sell goes over to deployed troops.

Once again, thanks guys. I've spent some time thinking about what exactly I want to do and after running across some pictures of Canadian Forces in Afghanistan*, I'm thinking about using CADPAT(AR) as my uniform. There's some decent references out there right now and I think I'll have fun with this. Thanks for the opinions about the DZ Ops clothing, I'm goimg to order some once they're back in stock at One Shot.

I'm really looking forward to kitting out in AR and I'll try to keep you all posted with my efforts.

If you're doing a CF kit, then DZ Ops kit wouldn't really be the way to go...issued CADPAT and possibly the DZ Smock, but not Ops.
BUT if you're just going to be building a CADPAT load, then by all means, the stuff is mint. If you go onto eBay and search 'cadpat' you'll find an assortment of pouches from ICE, which is also top notch.

Ops set is sexy and comfortable. I was kinda weary about it being 100% nylon but it actually breathes quite well and dries quickly. Not to mention the internal knee and elbow pad pockets are awsome so your not wearing bulky pads.
