faster windup?

I was wondering what you have to upgrade to have a faster response time inbetween when you pull the trigger and when it shoots a bb. I'm guessing basically rof upgrades?

Yes, anything that'll increase your ROF will reduce trigger lag. Simplest method is usually just to use a battery with more mah.

I always thought it was...

Increased Battery Voltage = Increased Rate of Fire

and

Increased mah = Increased number of shots before battery runs out

That's correct too but more mah usually means increased ROF as well. I think this has been discussed several times in the past. Look it up and you'll get way more information about the reasoning behind this.

You could also install a mosfet switch along with high speed gears (bevel gear with extra catches/notches.. would also reduce initial shot lag). That'll get you a quicker response on the initial shot and faster ROF overall on the subsequent shots if in full auto. However I believe the high speed gears don't like stronger springs much.

MOSFETS don't do much, if anything with regards to ROF or lag reduction. It's simply a solid state switch, rather than relying on the mechanical switch employed in most current AEG designs. It's recommended more on high current drawing guns (read: extremely high velocity, 475+fps.)
Does it increase ROF? It slightly reduces current draw, and as a result, can crank a *slightly* higher ROF... but it's not a vast improvement to write home about.

With extra notches on the bevel gear, on each SEMI-auto shot, the extra notches can catch the piston cranked further back from an overturn, and thus, reducing the revolutions required to crank the piston fully back again. The result is a faster follow-up SEMI-auto shot. The extra notches don't make any difference if all you do is fire in full-auto.

High speed gears can handle stronger springs, but your motor and battery just won't thank you for it.

Go for it. Just realize that your motor will sustain more wear with that setup. It won't break right away... it'll just require a more frequent maintenance schedule.
