Recognizing Progear V2 Gearbox (56K Warning)

Is there Any Way i can recognize a progear gearbox from lets say, an SRC one? i cant seem to find any markings or identifyers on the gearbox itself

Anyone know the make of this?
This is the Box it came in

The person said it was NIB (New In Box) But there are clear visible scratches on the exterior

Gearbox pics, left and right side

Looks like a Hurricane reinforced Gbox. Scratches are normal but if it is used there should be traces of grease inside.

Looks like either a Progear or G&P to me. From what I can tell, Progear sold their product to G&P - all G&P gearboxes I've seen have been shipped in the same packaging as Progear (which is what you're showing in your pictures.)

The scratches are normal, and are actually file marks from from the manual deburring process of the gearbox's manufacture.

ah ok, kool. I just wanted to make sure thats all. The guy i bought it from was straight and honest, but i just wanted to double check thats all.

And theres no grease inside, it feels clean and not slippery, but theres weird streak marks from something. You can see them in the 3rd picture, they look like thick short lines. Theres 2 obvious ones near the trigger assembly

so how does one tell? what manufacture diff geraboxes are? i know sum systema ones have systema engraved in em, but these dont. How does one know if they are buying a progear from a person when it could be a stock TM one for example.

I was the one he purchased the gearbox from. I bought it almost a year ago for an M16 project that I didn't do from a member on these forums. I knew that it was NIB but I think he had his doubts afterwards, I am greatful to you guys that have proven my word. I have no intentions of ripping anyone off on these forums. This is why I hate selling stuff, oh well. :banghead:

How can you tell by looking at it? how can one recognise the diff between a reinforced gearbox and a normal one, or by manufactures? Any pointers?

The biggest telltale is the trigger switch stop post. Besides that, you can tell by the material used, as well as the build-up of material around the gear housing.

Telling between aftermarket reinforced manufacturers is a bit more difficult and you can only really learn how to do it by seeing them first-hand and comparing the colour, the finish, and materials used.

Same. Little alignment holes for the bearing spring guide are the same size (too small) as the Hurricane one. Have to drill the holes bigger (hand drill, make rotating circles to spread the hole outwards without actually cutting through).

And the box is the exact same as the G&P one as well.

They're not too small, they're made for the G&P steel spring guide! We've been through this! :P.

I agree with it being the G&P from the appearance. That said, still a great mechbox.

as what I see... it is reinforced... standard v2 gearbox doesn't have those thick walls on the side where the gears sit.

...and it's definitely not an SRC gearbox. SRC gearboxes are very proud to put their name on their gearboxes. hahahaha!

I don't know if it's from CA though!

It looks like a HurricanE box.

The G&P ones don't have a number (holes size) near the spur gear.
