Question about cylinder sets.
Hello all,
I have a TM G36c. I bought an m4 length 6.04 barrel, which is 116mm longer than the stock barrel. I see in other threads that you are supposed to change cylinders when you lengthen your barrel. Thanks for bringing that one up. It looks like the G36C and M4 have the same porting.
Are version 2 cylinder sets compatible with version 3 gear boxes? |

Thanks. Can anyone tell me the difference between duracon and polycarbonate piston heads?
Also, has anyone used ballbearing spring guides and/or ballbearing piston heads? I can't think of any need for both of them, but is one better than the other? |

I believe "Duracon" is Systema's name for a silicon type polycarbonate material.
"Polycarbonate" is simply the industrial term for "plastic". I use both ball bearing spring guides and piston heads extensively, as do many other users. It relieves the twisting tension of the spring during it's compression stage. On top of that, the added height of it adds a higher preload to the spring. The result of these two forces leads to a higher velocity consistency, as well as a higher muzzle velocity. |

Thanks a lot for the help guys. ILLusion, all your info is superb. I was thinking of going a bit overboard in buying mech box internals, but after a lot of reading I decided the simplest and most effective way to upgrade. I ordered a systema ballbearing spring guide, m120s spring, and a KA tappet plate (preventative maintenance).
On a side note, during my researching I noticed that the port on the m4 cylinder is just a tad closer to the back than the g36c cylinder. I figured it's not a huge deal because the 6.04 barrel should compensate a little. |

milehigh, you should also replace your stock bushing with metal (non-ball bearing) ones, especially since you're going with a M120S. You'll probably need new shims, too, since not all bushings are the same dimension and changing them means reshimming. Furthermore, your stock gear will suffer a significantly reduced lifespan pulling something like a M120S. Finally, you'll want to get either 1200mah+ and/or 9.6v minis to properly pull that spring.

I forgot to mention I already have metal bushings. I do also have an intellect 8.4 1400 mini battery. Would this work well?
If not, I have a G&P 2200 stick battery that will fit in the G36k handguard if it's reconfigured. |

No problem with those batteries. Although I'm still concerned about pulling such a powerful spring on stock gears.

I few people I know have been running pdi 170% springs for quite some time without any problems with stock gears.
There is a set of systema metal gears on ebay i am looking at though.. |

Yeah, you can always worry about the gears when they do wear out.

True. Once a week gaming for me (not including winter months), combined with me being a conservative shooter will probably allow my gears to go for a while. Thanks for the help saint.
