SG1 Dismantling
I'm interested in taking my G3 apart myself to find out what I might need concerning upgrades and to look for normal wear and tear. I've tried searching but I can't find any guides or anything on how to properly dismantle and then eventually put an SG1 back together. Any help?

Remove the 3 external pins (1 at mag release and 2 at the stock). Remove the screw inside the stock which secures the stock to the mechbox. Pull off the stock and remove the u-shaped retainer. The lower with mechbox will slide out just like an MP5. After that it's easy.

I eventually want to throw a 170 spring in this bad boy but I first need to know if I need any other parts, and then learn how to correctly install the new spring. |

Remove the fire selector (tiny screw on right side of gun), remove motor endplate (2 screws) and then remove motor and grip/lower (2 screws). The mechbox will basically fall right out. Then you'll see if you have metal bushings or not. You'll have to open up the mechbox to find out about the gears.

Ok so I already know I have a metal mechbox just be looking at it now correct or do I have to open it up to see that as well? Like I said I'm really new at what parts are what.

Honestly, find a local expert to show you how once.
If not, study the schematics for the mechbox, and then open it inside a large clear plastic bag. You wont have to hunt for the parts that will fly off, and you can then bring the bag to the local expert you did not consult in the first place for a tutorial on reassembling it all. Even if said expert is a few hours down the road, it's worth the trip. |

Well even more bad news and a good thing I finally took my gun apart. It seems that I found two hairline cracks forming on one side of my mechbox near the tip by the piston. I don't have the money to get a new mechbox so I think I'm just going to part the damn gun out! :smack:

You can get new reinforced mechboxes for around $75. Check with guys like Spec-Arms, ACA or the AAC guys. There may even be the occasional stock one come up for sale here. I'd sell you one if I had any left, but I had so many that I threw them away.
