G&G Armalite Hop-up problems

This is a question to anyone out there who has ever owned one of the GR16 series AEGs, After fine tuning my hopup it looses its place after just a few shots and I find myself getting less range than a stock TM, and from what I've read its a fairly commmon problem. But what I want to know is how to fix it, will a new hopup rubber do it or am I better off to replace the whole unit?

It's not the hop-up rubber. The gears for the hop-up are looser than other brands.

You can fix it by simply putting a mech box shim (modification of shim required) between the first gear and the screw that holds it on your hop-up. Or replace the hop-up with a non G&G one.

If you have never taken apart a gun with a one peice hop-up, get someone who has to do the job, or you will break shit.

No way man, the One-Piece hop-up is the easiest damn gun to take apart.

1. Just pop out the front reciever pin
(it doesn't even come all the way out on a G&G),

2. slide the upper reciever forwards off the lower
(you may have to pull the cocking handle back slightly to navigate it over a bump that is on the mechbox)...

3. Once you have the upper reciever (with the barrel etc. attached to it) in your hand, you can just slide the barrel/hop-up right out of the front half of the gun.

Taking it apart from there requires a little more delicate work, but it's by no means 'complicated'.

I have had to replace a few cylinder heads for those who have snaped them off, not KNOWING how to do it. And I wasn't about to try and explain it over a forum, so that he could blame me if he happens to fuck up his cylinder head.

But Mysteryfish is right, it's not hard to take apart when you know how.

Whatever you do......DO NOT try and flip it open like a TM.

Sorry D.D.

I didn't mean to come off like I was telling you you didn't know what you were saying.

I apologize.

I've never dealt with anything but the one-piece hop up, as I've only owned the G&G, and G&P armalite varieties, so it seemed obvious to me the first time I tried taking it apart.

Thanks for the help DD, sounds like just replacing the whole unit would be easier, a TM armalite hop unit should do the trick right?

No sir, you need a one piece metal hop-up.

Unless the G&P rifles use someone elses parts, the G&P hop-up that's in this M4 isn't giving me any problems with performance (and it's nice and tight, so it holds it's position well)...

But I have limited experience with it, so if anyone can correct me, I'd like to hear it too.

Unfortunatly I have not compared it to other hop up units, I have just done my simple mod to the original G&G unit. I have traded my GR300, or I would have opened it up and compared it to a CA metal hop up that I have here.

Maybe someone here has already done the switch and can confirm if they are a direct swap.

Some people have this basic instinct on how stuff works. Like I opened my hop-up very easily but I took the time to figure out how each pieces were interacting with each other. If I break something I'm the only one to blame. Take care not to lose the little rubber cylinder that put pressure on the hop-up sleeve. If you lose it your screwed, the hop-up won't hop anymore.
