Academy L85

I know , its not the people's favorite gun. Yeah its cheap but not as well-built as TM AEGs and so..but you know , there are 2 L85 on the market , Academy's and STAR's which his like 4 times the price...

Since the Academy's cheap and upgradable , i dont see much of problem with it... what about you guys ?

From what I've read, by the time you gut an Academy's internals and replace it with something that's actually good, you might as well as buy a STAR. If you take the time you'd need to upgrade an Academy and use them to work a few extra shifts, bang, there's your STAR L85 and an incredibly better AEG at that.

nope i'm new to the air soft world so i dont know what they look like but all i say is that go with the stars it'll be better qualty for that money and as The Saint said if your going to upgrade it alot then just go buy the stars ok but hey its up to you.

how could you know that if youre new to airsoft ? I'm far from being new , I have known airsoft for about 3 years so far...
As you might not think , I know Star is waybetter than Academy , that's really easy to know. The fact is that I dont have a unlimited budget and I like the L85 ....anyways , if I really wanna spend money on a decent L85 , I will surely go with the Star , that being my first idea.

well, i, along with a few other members started out with the a-l85a1 (academy), i put famas internals, spring, motor, m16 hop up in it. As it was it was just as good as any tm aeg (seeing as it was tm inside) the body was ok, no worse than my famas (all plastic).
i also mounted an m16 outer barrel in place of the plastic one, i was in the process of upgrading the body, (i was going to put star body around it but i guess you need to wait for star to have excess bodies in stock) so that was on hold.
The gun is just as good as any plastic aeg, except for the spring (220fps), if you get one, dont worry about anything other than throwing in a new spring and maybe a hop up. other than that, the only reason many people dont like it, is because lots of people dont want to face that TM isnt the god of airsoft anymore.
Oh the scope. Take it off, get a vsr10 rail, mount an rds and thats fine enough. That will cost you about $550 to do w/ a new gun.

A new S-L85A2 (star).... theres no comparison. 9lbs, full steel, 400 fps out of the box, you get a pelican hard case for FREE. You can get a 4x rds SUSAT which comes with its own pelican hard case for FREE as well! All this for $900 to your door from Grim Fango.
buut its your choice. start low, work your way up buy an a-l85, sell it after a while, then get th s-l85. but if youve got the money get the s-l85.

yeah , thank you very much for clearing that up.

Actually , if I really wanted to, I could possibly have the money for the Star but as everybody here , I want each and every AEG :lol:
Some others are on my list now and I dont care much about the L85 to put a lot of money on it . I'd prefer drop big money on a G36k , G3a3 ( if I can find one ) or a Sr16.
