Your opinion on my upgrades (advice)

I bought a TM G36C a few months ago and after shooting it a little I thought I'd give myself a Christmas gift and upgrade it a bit. After reading these forums and the advice within This is what I went for. I'm doing the work this weekend

Systema M120S spring
"metal bushings
" Std Gear set
" Polycarb piston+head (also have aluminum, which should I install?)
"spring guide w/bearing
nozzle
420mm 6.03mm barrel and a King Arms silencer to cover
matching cylinder
Large foregrip and a 3000maH 8.4 v battery (not really concerned about high ROF, it should be ok)

I also purchased some cosmetic accessories (foregrip,Aimpoint replica etc...)

I thought this would make a decent all around gun and it does look cool.
I have been trying to get some of my friends in my regiment to get into the sport and after seeing the thing they are getting ready to place their respective orders.

I feel confident in doing the mechbox stuff but what have you guys found to be the best lubricants for the gearbox and piston etc... Any experience with synthetics?

should be a 420 fps cqb monster!! i'd used the polycarb piston. nice mix of lightweight and strength, without being "soft" like aluminum. rate-of-fire will be low, probably around 11-12 rds./sec., but a 9.6v battery should bring it back up to 13-15 rds./sec. for lubricants, i use a custom silicone lube for the cylinder which i make from lightweight silicone oil and dow corning #111 silicone grease. as for the gears, i have a silicone gear grease that i use sometimes or a gear grease with a wide temp range, depending on the application. don't forget that shimming and lube is everything. spend all your efforts there and take your time. you should have bought a complete shim set as well as the stock shims may not offer you the options that you need. don't overshim so that the gears are tight when you screw the box halves together, but don't undershimm and allow lateral gear play. it's a fine balance that will ensure quiet operation and maximum life out of the mechbox, but with an m120s, it will be even more important as small issues can become big problems with the energy delivery that spring will have.

i will probably see you there. i try to come down for games when i can, but it's a 4hr drive so it's not every weekend. if you've signed on to the EAR forums there are some good guys there like blastyman and donp who may be able to give you some pointers if you run into some problems.

First Factory/Prometheus makes a 420mm 6.03mm inner barrel.

Don't forget to also match your piston head to the cylinder head. I see that you listed only the cylinder.

Yes the prometheus is the one. i was going to go with an AK length barrel but I did not want a really long silencer, this should be more than adequate.

I have both aluminum and poly pistons/heads as well s a cylinder head (all systema) I figured I'd keep as many options available and have some spare parts

You might want to reconsider your choice of spring. The M120S is not like a M120. I've used them before and they were way too strong for the field limits. I was getting around 425-30 fps in my M16. Poweredge has them listed as high as 440fps. Most fields has a 400fps limit, so check with your field first.

Thats a good point. I was looking at a spring chart and the 120S does seem a little hot. With a fairly tight gun with quality internals and nozzle I may be better off with an M100 and keep the 120S for outdoor skirmishes and longer range stuff.

When I got my parts package in the mail I saw 120S on the spring case. I'm pretty sure I asked for a regular 120 but maybe in my oder e-mail I made a typo and put in an extra S somewhere.

I didn't know they had a 420mm. I got a 407mm in my G36. I'm not trying to be a dork, but my box that my prometheus barrel came in says that the next length barrel after 407mm is 455mm

Yeah I have the same box. I orderd mine from Redwolf, it was listed as a barrel for the M14. I haven't seen that length advertised with many other companies. I was deciding between a 405 and 455 myself until I stumbled upon this happy medium. Performance wise I'd assume it's pretty nil btween the three lengths.
