LMG light and fast style - mag choice
Quick LMG question.
I picked up an M249 para. I plan to run it less like a support weapon and more like a full auto sniper. So not too worried about covering fire. I've never been a head on Frontline type of fighter. I'm the guy always looking to move in from the flank. The plan is to go absolutely as light as possible. I found 220 Rnd cyma midcaps. No winding. No batteries. Assuming short 5-8 round bursts, do you think it's plausible to run 4+ midcaps instead of a box mag? Assuming you only load approx 200 rnds, that's 25-40 bursts per mag Thoughts please |

Bad idea. Like it or not a big gun slows down both your hands and your feet and that makes you vulnerable. Someone carrying an lmg will always be the focus of attention and if you cant afford to to suppress people and you're still bearing the penalty of the weight, making you worse at straight up gunfights then you arent being effective and will just get outlplayed/outshot.

I appreciate the feedback. The LMG is the only type of gun that I haven't run in 4 years of airsoft. I'll mess around with different styles and if in the end the classic suppression role is best then I'll give it a go.

Definitely run with the box. Or your basically an oversized heavy m4.

An LMG or MG is a support weapon, it's meant to hammer an area, and not with pinpoint accuracy. Volume of fire is the goal.
You won't get that with 4 midcaps, and will be out of ammo asap. The other issue is true suppression fire leads to malfunctions and failures in the mech box, which is why I've HPA'd my M249, thus allowing me to literally hold the trigger long enough to empty an entire box of ammo in one go without worrying about killing my gun or damaging it.

running mine until the GB explodes then giving it the full ZTW treatment .
Currently its a G&P Stoner converted to run M249 box mags. Its getting a bit more liposuction done to it right now by Z. Hope to show off some pics soon As for the OP, like everyone is saying, LMG/MG is meant for loads and loads of down range fire power. Running it any other way is just silly |
