G&G "Modified" V2 Gearbox

FYI. Not to be confused with their newly announced "New Generation Gearbox" coming out around this Christmas, G&G have made a slight revision/modification the their current non-blowback V2 gearboxes found in most CM and GC series guns. There is reinforcement internally on the top and bottom now. The bottom is so much thicker you need a different/modified tappet plate. Additionally, there are reinforcement "ears" on the bottom front. Just found out about this when I went to install an ETU into a CM16 Raider for a customer and said WTF. Never got any notice from G&G they were doing this.

Between this and the bracers they've been including for the last year or so, there should be little if any breakage of the front of the shell. The metal itself appears to be the same as the previous ones but who knows if it's actually different or not. Note: I have not seen this in all my latest shipments but it seems to be happening as new production goes through. It's in all my new CM16 Carbines, Raiders and Raider-L but not the R8 and Mod0. Non eof the GC guns I got had these in them. Also all the Raiders I got had 6.04mm brass inner barrels but the Carbines still had the 6.08mm aluminum inner barrels.

This is the announcement for the "New Generation Version 2"

I heard murmurs of G&G finally fixing their notoriously weak V2 shells, glad to finally see it happening! Hope one of these newer shells ends up on my tech bench some time soon

radius cut the tappet but not the corners of the cylinder window? shame.

Not sure why they're okay going through the effort of making new molds but not changing the gearbox material.

I see this as a pointless improvement because the cracks almost always start at the top, not the bottom.

Agreed with pestobanana...
Looks like the same zinc alloy to me. More like a band-aid fix, as was their hop up brace.
Had two separate units with the brace that broke regardless.
