Spring downgrade for ptw

The age of the cylinder to me is not an issue as long as it is physically in decent shape. I have serviced some with multiple dents and perhaps 2-300,000 rounds on them, they just kept on going. Others have worked right up until catastrophic failure, like broken spring or nozzle. One came to me with a broken nozzle, broken spring, bent rack gear, broken piston severely dented and swelled shell. All I could salvage was the spring guide.

Older ones are out there, and in decent shape (occasionally even new) and are worth paying $150 in my opinion.

The king arms cylinders have been dubbed "sufficient" in user reviews, provided that you loctite the two screws in place.
Some failures are more likely to occur, like the rack breaking or the air nozzle breaking. But consider that a systema piston body is worth as much as a whole KA cylinder.
That being said, some breakages, like the rack failing, can also damage the gearbox and easily do a KA cylinders worth of damage.

The systema cylinders are worth it. They really retain their reliability over the years; the internals in one of my cylinders is from 07 and work fine.
If you do get an early stainless cylinder, theyre easy to pick out. You can fix the oversize rail issue by just getting a velocity piston.

The Systema aluminum are fine, just don't dent them or over tighten them. They run for years if you grease them once in awhile. The main issue is that PTWs drop one BB when you may change. If you don't let the BB drop before slapping the next mag in that BB gets pushed into the cylinder and can dent it. Then the o-ring rubs on the dent. But it's fairly easy to avoid. The modern stainless Systema cylinders are the way to go. I haven't heard of one being bad for quite some time, though that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. You will be alright picking up a used Systema aluminum one and taking care of it though.
