New to airsoft need advice on a M4

I visited Toronto airsoft the other day i got help from the tech guy and he showed me a m4 style gun priced at 459.00 I'm not sure the brand name. the store got busy and i was lost to other customers . can someone plz recommend a brand and model,I'm willing to spend 400.00 to 500.00.

Seriously, I know that this is the Newb Tank, but this is probably THE most common question other than AV.
This question was asked just a week ago, seriously.
There are a ton of threads asking the same thing.

To answer you properly, odds are you were looking at a VFC, either a VR16 series, or M4ES. If you google "VFC airsoft", there will be a link sending you to a catalogue of all the products VFC manufactures.
The difference between the 2 series is mainly the hopup. On the VR16, it has a rotary dial, while on the M4ES, it uses a conventional M4 houpup.

Yes it was a VFC M4 but i can't remember the model. i guess i'll wait until next week for the airsoft convention that's being held at Siege ,hopefully i can get more questions answered and walk out with a new sport.

Daishi it will have to be AEG merzip merzip for now :-) i don't want to deal with gaskets and gas. not at my level.

Its actually a ton easier to maintain a gas gun then an AEG in my opinion. I started with GBBRs then I bought an AEG as a backup for winter....I favour my GBBR heavily over AEGs.

I would say to go with a King Arms or G&G M4. VFC is known for its externals but not its internals.

KWA is good as well, but aftermarket parts and such is slim pickings. I wouldnt spend more then 350 bucks on an AEG.

Personally, id recomend getting a new gen WE M4, mod the bolt catch, and have a ton of fun with it.

Not sure if it's still true or if there's something better but the Tanio Koba Designed KJW M4's (the V2's without the "rubber band problem") work right out of the box without any upgrades or anything like that necessary. Except for maybe the Cradle Velocity kit so you're not shooting hot in summer or if you're playing in CQB you can turn it down.

From what I understand if you buy a WE Open Bolt you'll need to immediately upgrade it with some reinforced RATech parts (unless you get one with it already installed) and you might as well put an NPAS kit on it while you're upgrading with reinforced parts.

I've never owned one but if I were to get a GBBR I think I'd get one with the WA Magna system, not piecemealed cheap crap thrown together but like a G&P WOC or ViperTech.

Yah my first gun was a KJW v2 M4. Great gun and ran for four years before I sold it, and I only ever changed the bolt once. You dont even needs the cradle velocity reducer. Just grab a few orings from Canadian tire and put them over the valve and you're good to go.

Im just suggesting the WE m4 cuase theres more options to upgrade parts and such, with the kjw what you buy is what you get.

If you can get AV'd thats the best route.

Other wise go King Arms. The externals are decent enough and they are good starter guns. If you have 500$ budget that could get you a KA M4 and a gun doc to basically fully upgrade it for you. Then you will have a far shooting, quality AEG.

Don't forget magazines. I can tell you from experience it sucks when your first game is you running around with a bitch maraca. You will want to grab a couple of Mid caps or a crap load of low caps. You can pickup a box of mid caps for around 50-100 bucks which will last you a long time.


Also don't let people discourage you on this site. The season is just barely starting and people have too much testosterone built up from the lack of plastic flinging (or whatever). Come summer time everybody on here is a bit more relaxed.


Alternatives to the KA are G&G but they can be hit and miss. If you are set on an armalite, you should be paying about 300 for a full metal one. I find a large number of stores sell the lower tier polymer M4's for the same price as full metal ones sold online. The Classifieds are sometimes your best bet with great "starter" kits being sold, normally guns that have been fielded once or twice before the owner lost interest and some times they come with mags, optics, slings ect. G&P is a good brand but the internals are hit and miss. VFC is considered a great brand externally and decent internally. Dboys has some decent budget guns and if you are looking at AK's SRC or Cyma are not terrible but not great either.

Buying an airsoft gun is like buying a car. Make sure whatever type of gun you are interested in you ask yourself if you will be comfortable carrying it around for hours on end and that you can shoulder it comfortably. If you are really serious about this look for form first, then you can spend money on the function.

this forum can be quite abrasive, however, keep in mind that the 'which gun should I buy' questions are asked pretty much 2-3 times a week. Answering with the same thing and spawning the same discussion time and time again does get tiresome from this side of the fence, however it doesn't give freedom for people to be dicks.


But to answer your question, the KA is a pretty reasonable budget m4 that won't break the bank and is metal where metal should be.You should have some budget in reserve for when the internals break.

They will break.

It doesn't matter what brand you get, what price you pay, something will go wrong.

If 500$ is your upper limit of just the gun and not including any supporting gear or safety net, then VFC is a better choice.
