Response from Holosun here on ASC.:
"Re: Holosun HS403A from AirsoftParts.ca - Product Fault Zack: It is unfortunate that you have had a negative experience. By design the sight will automatically turn off after 8 hours. Any movement of the sight turns the sight back on. This also happens if you manually turn off the sight by pushing the two buttons at the same time and the moving the sight. This is to extend battery life and to extend the life of the internal electronics. In summary, if the sight if off for any reason, a slight movement will turn it back on again." This makes me feel better.

Gato:
The Holosun optics were designed for real steel. It just happens that the Air Soft community has embraced the sights and for good reason. If you go to http://holosun.ca/index.php/reviews , there are a number of reviews that talk about 5.56. The Youtube videos show some demos as well. The sights are bench tested to 1000G. That covers up to shotgun and beyond. I would not likely use one on a .50 BMG, but that is not a typical round for close combat! |

Welcome to the world of real steel optics - where you pay that FAT premium to have your red dot on at all times.
And you should have it on at all times. There is just something about pulling up to a game, pulling your rifle out of the gun bag, and having your Aimpoint already on from the last big game a month ago that just makes it worth the excessive quantity of cash. |

All LED technology (the thing that lights up the red dot) have a finite life. Allowing the electronics to power off, extends its life. Based on the power draw at level 6, the battery would last 50,000 hours even if the sight never turned off. With the motion detection, by the time you shoulder the rifle, it is already powered on to the last brightness setting you used and ready to go.
And you don't have to pay a premium! |

What are the chances of holosun making a rail mounted class 1 ir laser?

I have asked the manufacturer. If they do have it, we will have to determine if there are any legal issues.

You can even use American components if sourced outside the US. There just needs to be the will to manufacture and the market to drive it. That's all.

Thank you for your input. I am not so worried about the ITAR issues as I am with liability. I have to look into what approvals are required to import them. I want to be certain they are "eye safe". I would also have to look into if this would increase my insurance. Ironic that insurance costs have to drive business decisions.
Would you want a stand alone IR laser or one integrated into the sight? I expect that the latter would be the most likely configuration. A micro red dot with an IR integrated. |

Not Eye Safe, Pretty Boy Maximus on the field take his picture!

stand alone QD rail mount, pressure switch on/off (NOT a toggle like the peq-15), 2 axis adjustment, focal adjustment, under $200, and preferably with documentation verifying it's indeed class 1 IR (not just the sticker on the unit)
With all the uproar about IR lasers lately, you will sell these like BBs if you meet the class 1 requirements! |

That is a pretty bang on assessment of what we need.
