Painting Glock 17 Sights
Hello
I got a local deal on a WE Glock 17 with a missing rear sight, so now I'm looking for a Glock rear sight. The two sights that are readily available to me is the 5KU which is about $20 and the Guarder sights which is up to $50. Looking at pictures and reviews of the 5KU sight. The glow in the dark material on the sight post looks terrible in full light. Then reviews say it doesn't perform well in low light. Then the Guarder is decent all around. It look good in full light. Then reviews suggest it has a medium glow lifespan when the lights are turned off. At the moment I think I don't really need night sights. I'm mostly interested in a dot sight. So I could buy the 5KU for $20 and remove/paint over the cheap glow in the dark material. So I'm curious to know if anybody has experience doing this and what items do I need? Also I'm not really willing to spend more than $15 in supplies. Once I'm pushing past $35 I almost rather just get the Guarder sight. Last edited by loafing_smurf; February 6th, 2014 at 15:03.. |

Can't Aim worth a damn!! old lady gives me heck for missing the toilet all the time.

I have done this to the 5KU sights.
I used a small drill bit and by hand (literally holding just the bit) slowly drilled out the cheap glow crap. When you get a nice clean recess, apply white acrylic hobby paint with a small brush (I used Tamiya white). That's about all you need to do.

I never thought of using a drill bit, I'll try that. Something I was thinking was putting a small piece of sand paper on a Q-tip.

if i am not mistaken, the G26 rear site will fit your needs, and i happen to have an extra i could LUME for you and send your way.
By LUME i mean adding the EXACT luminous material used in almost every Rolex wristwatch (white during the day, green at night, bright as hell, lasts really long in the dark).... much akin to what i did on my rear sight yesterday. There are a few threads for painting pistol sights and stuff. You could us Nightsitters Handgun Sights, Glow On paint or Glow inc paint. Or you could use MikeMcNair's option....
