is my king arms m4 broken?
Sorrry first off, I am a newbi. I did a search, but didn't find what I was loking for. I just got a King arms M4 AEG as my first airsoft rifle, I have had it a total of one day, and have noticed the magazine does not stay in the rifle, and it is very loose. It is so loose, the mag catch dosnt fit in the recess in the mag causing it to just be pulled out. Is this a comon problem? what is the solution, a better mag, or take the rifle back? I watched some youtube videos about how to fix this and it was suggested just wrap the mag in tape to make it fit better. I have alot of experiance with real firearms, including m4's, should I just get used to the quality, fit and finish of airsoft to be very low, or is it just the rifle I just purchased just low quality?

Assuming that the mag catch isn't broken, airsoft magwells sometimes differ between brands.
I have mags that fit just fine in my ICS, Echo1, and WE (AEG) M4s, but don't lock into my KA M4. Did you buy the M4 from a retailer? You could head back and see if they sell any mags that they know fit into your M4. King Arms does manufacture their own magazines, and I can tell you that the KA mags I own, do fit into their M4. |

If you just bought it the mag that came with the gun should fit rather smoothly, there will be some play but not like you are describing.
I'd call the store you bought it from and ask them since you have only had it 1 day. I have about 10 KA metal mags and they work in my G&G, G&P, TM guns with no issues or excessive play. Have never had to tape one to fit/work. |

Your mag catch might be unscrewed.
If there is a small screw in the center of the button, try first removing it , replacing everything and rescrew it in place. It can also use a "screwed on" button, in which case you need to press the button way in and screw the whole catch from the other side of the rifle. |

Some people go by "You get what you pay for" approach.
I would return the whole gun and not settle for a simple mag return, just to ensure you don't have future problems again. |

Check mag catch as described...
...also, the mag shells of metal airsoft mags are really thin. Doesn't take much to bend them out of shape. You can probably bend the top lip of the cut out in the mag (where the mag catch catches) so it is engaged a bit more. Likewise...you can take the mag catch out and actually bend the end of the catch in a bit so it engages more. Some body to mag fitments are so sloppy that guys will shim the inside of the mag well with some thin adhesive felt (like the stuff you put under chair legs so they don't scratch things up) or the loop side of adhesive velcro. |

Thanks for the info, I took it apart, and it looks like the slop in the mag well, and the catch being not long enough doesn't allow it to catch. I got out my milling machine and removed about .5mm from the little tab on each side of the release catch that governs how far it can go into the mag well. Problem solved. I guess I should expect to massage these guns to make them work well.

Can't fix my own guns. Willing to fix yours.

if you're a machinist you'll be well equipped to re manufacture everything that breaks! So many times I've wished I've had a tabletop CNC or even just a simple lathe

♥ LOVES helmets! ♥
Don't shoot me more than 10 times or I'll charge you! |
This is very common ! With ares and king arms.
What you have to do is do to walmart by sticky Velcro and pun it inside the magwell

Not Eye Safe, Pretty Boy Maximus on the field take his picture!

We had issues with older ka metal mags.
Take the guts out and bend the shells out a bit, on all of ours they were folding in a bit causing the mag to be thinner and loose |
