PTW requires very little maintenance, AEG requires way more. If people say they don't do it, they are neglecting their gun, and lifespan and performance suffers. Same with PTW. The only real mainetnance is cylinder clean and regrease maybe one or twie a year. Minimal time and tools involved.

Says the guy that hasn't owned an aeg in a decade lol
As far as preventative maintenance, the ptw is more demanding because its more precise. Only need to grease an aeg every 1-2 seasons. You change the oil in your car every 5000 miles to save the engine, in racing they change the engine completely every 5000 miles. That's just how it is. As far as breakdown maintenance, its more common in aeg's. But mostly because the original build quality is so inferior and every tom dick and harry go messing about and put whatever cheap parts in the mechbox. My 249 and G3 are the pinnacle of aegs. The 249 has been through hell and back with only a regreasing every year no problem. And the G3 was 7yrs old when I sold it with the same upgrade parts in it for 4yrs |

To the OP as mcguyver said PTW do require little more care but mostly is keeping the cylinder clean, however with the popular choice of LiPo usage additional preventative maintainance is also a good idea. |

Preventative maintenance on a PTW involves shooting quality ammo and not fully submerging your gun in water. |

You missed my point.
Its more difficult to do an an aeg, but you can potentially not grease an AEG for 4 years and it will still work. You can not clean the barrel. Ever. And it'll still shoot lol You never need to clean the mags. Ever. Their loose tolerances make them more generally more redundant and requiring maintenance less often. Yes there's broken parts and that, but its typically attributed to buy shitty parts or bad gundocs lol My point is the ptw requires scheduled PM while and aeg can be largely neglected But the same is said for a stock toyota camry vs a mercedes. Apparently in europe, If you miss an oil change with the mercedes, it sends out a homing signal and mercedes comes and steals your car to do the oil change lol |

Perhaps slightly off-topic.
Are the systema's REQUIRED to run on Lipo? Could they run on 9.6 1600 NiMh or does that cause problems? What's the advantage to running a lipo? |

They're originally designed to run off NiCd
I wouldn't run them off NiMH due to the low discharge rate The advantage to lipo on a ptw is the same as it is on an aeg, except its not recommended to run NiMH on a PTW http://airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=156571 |
