Piston Upgrade help
Bit of a noob question here I want to swap my piston (my gun came stock with an all metal one and other than the weight im worried about the damage something like that may do to my gearbox should something go wrong)
So Im looking at replacement pistons and have heard that Lonex, SHS and Prometheus (if i can afford it) are all good but Im not sure how many metal teeth I should have on my piston; Ive seen anything from 1 to all metal teeth and im not sure which to get. Appreciate any help Forgot to mention I have a V2 gearbox with a guarder SP110 spring Last edited by Spectre.MWIV; March 21st, 2013 at 11:53.. |

Oh we do hate you, just never felt like wasting the time to give you a user title :P

Depends on what goals you have for future upgrades.
One with a "half rack" of metal teeth is probably fine for you if you just want to stay stock ish. The metal teeth are good for getting the piston started but full metal wears out the other (sector i think its called) gear faster then plastic teeth will. If you goimg to go for high power youll likely want full metal teeth or high ROF youll want just some so you can short stroke and such. Lonex is a good piston at a good price. Dont forget the piston head as well. And perhaps you may just want to change that to reduce the impact against the cylender head as even with full metal teeth if the teeth are simaler hardness to the gears and aoe is correct and shimming is good you shiuldntbget excessive wear on the gearbox. Also i gotta ask the whole piston is metal? Or you mean just the teeth and the piston head?

The piston head is polycarb (G&P explosive bearing head) but the piston itself is entirely aluminum the teeth and the frame :\

Hmm... If its a g&p aluminum piston, they come in a few flavours of pre short stroked. Count the teeth on the sector gear & see if it is 16 or not. Less is short stroked.

Not Eye Safe, Pretty Boy Maximus on the field take his picture!

Its a G&P
Your gear shafts are gonna break no matter what piston you use. Fact of life for a G&P You only need 3 metal teeth up to 470fps as long as the piston is POM or strong nylon And FYI prometheus pistons can handle something crazy like 650fps |

Yeah Im swapping all the gears out next week for a set of heat treated G&G reinforced gears
I havent heard too many good things about G&P gears and to swap them asap |
