co2 or propane
hey guys. im really hoping for a solution to some problems im having. First off, i just bought a kjw 1911 for my first gbb gun. i love it. i love the realisim, the feel (compared to non-bb) and the sound. now the problem i have is the propane mag broke on me (stupid plastic) i do wanna buy new mags and also im gonna buy a WE Scar gbbr ( i've read enough reveiws and im dead set on it). before i spend a bunch of money on mags i wanna know a few things. I've found sites that i can get co2 or propane mags for the same price but whats better? i wanna know how many shots a 12g co2 cartrige does in a gbb gun. i know co2 is harder on a gbb but as a mechanic i know things break and everything needs maintence.

If you use CO2, your gun is very likely to be shotting too hot for most games.
But they are find for plinking.

Is the nozzle in the gun blue? If it is it can take co2 but it will break sooner rather then later.
Propane is cheaper to operate. Co2 will likely be to high powered for gaming with. Also did you look to see if you can just buy the feed lip (i assume thats what broke cause its tbe only plastic on the mag) Here i find http://albertaairsoft.com/gun-parts-...-feed-lip.html Stop dropping your mag. Lol jk it happens.

the nozzle is red. its kjw 1911 meu from buyairsoft.ca and they sell co2 mags at the website for the 1911. as far as i know it will work ( the mag slide is even groved for co2). one problem im having is that it freezes up too much on propane and i only get about 6-7 shots before i need to run to my propane and refill (not practical). The games that we play last pretty long. but thats why i wanna go to co2 but i wanna know roughly how many bb refills can i expect from a co2. i just dont wanna buy 3 co2 mags to find out i get shitty shots.

If it has the red blow back unit it is CO2 safe, you should get about 2 mags worth of shots before you have to replace the cylinder. If your only getting 6-7 shots out of the propane mag chances are its too cold out to run the gun or you are not fully filling the mag before hand. Or your blow back unit isn't properly lubed and you are wasting a ton of propane each shot.

It is freezing up cause its cold likely in summer itll work beter again co2 will be too high fps to game with especially indoors but even for outdoors.
You can and should be able to fire off a full mag of bbs on one propane fill sometimes even more even when done quickly like shooting one shot every seccond till mag is empty. Are you playin outdoors or in a colder space? Ars you filling the mags with gas properly? Ie holding the mag upside down and pressing untill you can no longer hear gas transfering? I stand corrected i think on the fps apparently its only 340 on co2 but you may wanna dbl check that on the canadian version. You should get a full mag or close to it on propane 18-21 rounds. You will get about 2 mags on co2 40-45 rounds from what i have found online. Keep in mind its way esyer to cary one portable gas can to top up as apposed to a bunch of 12g co2 also id suggest a bunch of extra mags then it dont matter if you only get 18 shots outta each one just change mags (its prety hard to use a pistol as your primary and only carry one or two mags id suggest 6-10 for sure)

If it's cold out where you are, gas guns aren't going to work very well or at all. CO2 will only work slightly better.

i live on the west coast (not as cold as alberta.) but i have froze up the gun. i do play outside with a lot of guys on different feilds ( no designated feild in nanaimo). I think im filling the mag properly and ive tried many different ways (mag upside down, hold for 10 sec, repeat. even just sat there a few times, or even tried to let the valve warm up between fills BEFORE shooting the gun) but always the same resault. as far as keeping it lubed up... thats deffanetly not the problem. first thing i did befor i even filled the mag when i got it was pulled it apart and spayed it down.

the problem with CO2 is the way the cartridge is held in the mag: if the mag uses a screw system that tightens using an Hex key, it's probably going to degrade and the hex key will progressively have trouble sealing the cartridge in until the point where the hex key doesn't work anymore at all.
I've had the problem with my KJW hi capa. Look for systems that will be easy to tighten completely even after some intense use. for instance in this type of magazine the hex shape will be destroyed quickly so you'll have to rely on the big fence for screw drivers. the big fence sucks with regular-sized screwdrivers and you'll need a giant one.A coin doesn't work for tightening the screw enough. For that reason I went back to propane after a few years with co2.

thanks guys. this is the type of info i am looking for. i love it when people accually read the questions. the allen key problem i know all to well (germans seem to love the hex screws) and i see what you mean about the screw driver. i am thinking co2 is deffenately the way to go at this point (especially in the winter. love snow games) and you guys have been great. gonna order some mags as soon as a couple guys figure out what they want.

if yer playin outside thats the issue, once it gets 10-15 degrees youll have no issues with propane, here in ontario we baisically cant use gbb from oct or nov till apr or may.
yeah hi caps suck runnin round with a baby rattle all day, prety much noone uses em unless they just got new gun and dont have mags yet or the odd few guns that dont have too many mags available. i find 60-120 rounders are a good balence between realism and capacity cause we all know you often need to run a few extra shots down range for folks to feel em

about one n a half to two mags on propane lil more on co2,
the issue you have with propane in your pistol is because its a single stack mag thus a small gas chamber, the scar has a big gas chamber m4 has a big chamber too
