If your not a "large person" I would go with the M14 socom not the full length. Especially since you say you want to play in the woods. The MP5 wont give you the range outdoor you will need to be effective. And the socom has a full auto option for those times when semi is not enough. I know three guys who run the cyma socom and love it. Ive got a TM M14 socom and love it but the TM is not a starter gun unless you have $$$.

Hope that helps.

2nds on the Socom length, if a sniper/dmr style rifle is your thing. I've had both M14 models, and the Socom is much more manageable in a woods environment via benefit of it's 16" barrel vs the regular length 20" barrel, and just as accurate.

And for back up get a gbb pistol from KJW or KWA. I don't think there's a need for lugging around another aeg if you do a dmr setup. I like keeping it as light as possible.

Everyone has got it covered but ill repeat for u.
Start with an aeg (m4 mp5 ak47/74 scar somethin like that)
A good bolt action is a vsr/bar10 or any aps2 system/l96.
If u buy a good BA be prepared to buy the rifle. A hop up unit a set of sears an inner barrel a piston and a cylender as a bare minimum. U should also get a spring a spring guide a cylender head (baisicly all u will use is the stock the reciver the outer barrel and some of the trigger assembly from the gun u buy)
estimated cost for a vsr/bar10 is between 600-900 in parts plus tue cost of the rifle and untill u take a sniper course u will only be allowd to use 450fps max so u will have little advantage over most of the aeg's on the field and they will have a rate of fire that will be non existant on a bolt action.
take it from a sniper. Start with an aeg play a year or two then decide if u wanna be a sniper.
i should also note as a sniper u are rarely going to fire a shot in a skirmish game. In milsim maybe more often but likely only two or three shots in a 24 hour game if u dont have a night vision scope.
welcome to ASC hope we helped u make a better choice.

To be honest if you're on a low budget, you may want to consider a medium length gun like a scar, m4, g36 etc, that way you can play indoors and outdoors. Would also work better for you if you're a smaller person.

Although other people seem to have okay experiences with CYMA, every CYMA gun I've owned or fired has broken within the first few hundred rounds. Maybe CYMA hates me.

A good DMR is insanely expensive to build, and even with that you don't have that much more range than any other gun. I've personally spent about $1000 turning my M14 into a viable DMR, and I still haven't gamed it yet.

I got the most kills with my VSR10 on our speedball course. Usually more than anyone else with an AEG
And I'd get about the same # of kills as would with my M4 normally on other fields. Helps that I can accurately pick off someone's elbow/boot/hand/whatever sticking out past cover lol
But I'm not a sniper, sniping is boring. I go actively hunting for airsofters. There's very little sit and wait when I've got my rifle lol

If you go the L96 route, with 500$ total gun included, I have a really good set-up. No need for Maruzen, my Well L96 cost me 150$ (got it from the US) and the upgraded parts (most important is the pdi hop-up unit) cost me 350$ and I have to say that this rifle wreaks havoc in any skirmish that I bring it to. No need for dumping huge amount of money and the only thing that is not upgraded is the cylinder.
