GBBr mag Drop durability/reliability
How "rugged" are GBBR magazines, Specifically M4, MP7? Can they survive repeatedly being dropped (falling freely from a magwell) onto bare concrete from shoulder height and still function?
Has anyone cracked a magazine or just done damage to valves, feed ramps etc in repeatedly dropping GBB mags? Repeat same question but replace bare concrete with those foam puzzle pads on top of concrete. |

Re. WE M4 mags (dunno about the other WE ones). This is on hardwood...not concrete.
When (not if) they land on their lips, they'll break one or both lips. Open bolt are a bit better, but you'll still bust them. When (not if) they land on their base, they'll "smush" the corners of the base...which actually takes a good bit of the brunt of the impact and still remains usable. Within reason they can be straightened out with pliers. Some guys were putting those rubber ranger pulls (the loop kind) one their mags and turning them sideways so they could still fill them. Helps a bit...but really only leaves a ranger pull band imprint of a dent in the mag base. I've put the magpul ones (the "real" ones? made of pliable rubber, not the hard plastic ones) on some of mine. I still try not to drop them, but one the occasion or two that I have they soak up most all the impact for a base hit. KWA Mp7 mags are both all metal and really heavy. I would not give them much chance of surviving a bad hit. Switching to more of a mag retention tactical reload is key. Can be done quite quick if you're paying attention to how much you're shooting, prep the next mag, have a good stash spot, etc.. |

I am using some magpull-style pulls (the old ones that started the company) on mine.
They will usually bounce off the rubber and land flat on the side. I try not to drop them from shoulder, but it happened a few times. Closed bolt lips are easy to break and will not survive a few hits. Open bolt are beefier and protrude a lot less, so there are less chances that they will be hit. I have not broken any lips on my 8 mags yet. *forgot to mention they are WE Version 2 30rnd

The KWA mags are actually pretty strong, despite their weight.
Some (not sure about Mp7) KWA mags' lips are metal, making them sturdier and harder to break. My KWA LM4 PMags lips are plastic if I remember correctly A guy on KWA's forum did a drop test of these and apparently the conclusion is they can take quite a beating (not indestructible obviously). I didn't check it out personally as I am not interested in pushing my luck. Check out BoobieM4h on youtube or on KWA's forum if you want more details about this |

I've dropped 2 mags from my KJW M4 from 1 story+ onto concrete, they both survived the impact. The metal was slightly malformed where it took the hit, but there were no leaks and functionality remained 100%. Mind you the KJW mags are alot of metal and are probably more solid than the WE design

^ Boring user name, and look he's old!!

I'vr dropped we m4 mags from 4 feet onto concrete and the shell was dinged and the mag seems warped/won't feed properly.
Not sure how they fair against grass or dirt. |

I wouldn't drop KSC/KWA MP7 mags to bare cement, they have plastic baseplates.

Az, I'm bring my lm4 on friday game FYI
LM4....Direct impact to the bottom is fine from shoulder, hits to the top will break feedlips. WE M4...Direct drop will dent the bottom to the point baseplate removal becomes difficult, drops to the top will break feedlip (much easier than LM4) MP7 Direct drop to bottom will break the floorplate, and spilling the spring, etc out. In general GBBR mags are not meant for drop -especially if you do those stupid costa reload. Tactical reload is the way to go. |

As I said, I've dropped a mag when jumping off a building, hit the asphalt with loud bang... the paint was scratched and the metal where it took the hit a little marred. No leaking, bending, deforming or breaking. Worked flawlessly after (still does). I've dropped a WE AK74 mag from standing height and yes the baseplate warped but this was fixed with pliers. Seems like the durability isn't quite there yet on WE's. God I love my KJ : D |

Stock up on feed lips xD
I dropped my We M9 mag onto hardwood floor from 4 feet, feed lip snapped. On the other hand I've dropped my KWA MP9 mag while running, and kicked it by accident too, it was fine. Id say its all luck and angles. |
