Deans to Mini Tamiya

Looking at a gun that is wired for deans, but all my batteries (as well as everyone else's) are tamiya. Do I need any special tools to change the connectors from deans to Tamiya?

Thanks.

You want a wire-cutter, a soldering iron, some solder, and a bunch more deans plugs (some of the stuff in the video below helps too like that alligator clip fixture).

Then you convert all your other stuff to deans anf you're happy from then on. For your charger you can probably get a pre-wired lead http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...roducts_id=888

How to;

for good proper no issue connection :

wire crimpers, soldering iron, and a little hot glue

tin the wires, very light tin on the connector, crimp the connector inplace, solder the two together (heat the connector till the solder on it and the wire run free and together.) .. plug them into the connector, then fill the wire end of the connector with hot glue to hold them in position as they are always loose in the connector block

ofcourse.. your best option is to switch your batteries and charger to deans as they are a far far better connector ... and just keep adaptors in your box for dean/tamiya if you need to borrow one of theirs or vice versa ..

but the above has proven to be the best compromise for tamiya connectors in my opinion

Really?

How about soldering the deans instead of some half-asses hot glue method.

This isn't RC cars, airsoft guns wont vibrate the solder connectors loose.

Way I see it, he just offered a secure compromise for the lazy and cheap that don't want to change everything to Deans, no harm, no foul.

Thanks.
By the way, IF you end up coming around to the idea of just rewiring your batteries to Deans... make sure that during re-soldering you only cut ONE lead at a time! Don't forget.

I actually recommended complete switch over to deans...

however... the hot glue wasn't for vibration of the solder joint (or for the deans connector) ... it was for the inherant issues Tamiya connectors have with the pins/wires being stupidly loose and giving improper connections.. or if by chance the battery falls down it's a bit of insurance the wires don't get yanked outta the connector and ruined.

either way .. as Stalker mentioned .. just an opinion/alternative .. no harm nor foul in another opinion given.

I read it as hot glue being a way to secure the Tamiya connector contacts and don't find it a bad idea at all.

Or you could just get a cheap Deans to Tamiya adapter, and when your battery dies, get one with a Deans connector.

Ah sorry!

I read it and a RC car method of installing deans came to mind, People will solder on female spade connectors to the wires, crimp them onto the deans then smother everything in hot glue.

Sorry! I misread it!
