A Scale Question

Alright, this one might be a bit weird, but whatever. I've been thinking about picking up an M4-type rifle for something different. The only one I've got any kind of experience with is that Walmart DPMS clearsoft thing. I'm not what you'd call a big guy, 5'6 or so. But it feels positively tiny to me, and not in a good way. I'm a lot more comfortable shouldering an AK variant where I don't feel like it's halfway up my nose. Is the DPMS fixed-stock thing massively out-of-scale, or M4s just not fit me?

I'll pass on advice that was passed onto me: try before you buy. Handling the gun type you're curious about for a bit is the best way to find out if it's comfortable or not. And this doesn't mean Walmart clearsoft; it means finding someone or somewhere that will let you handle a quality airsoft gun. Then you'll be able to decide whether an M4 is "for you" or not.

To my knowledge, most major airsoft brands make their weapons close or exactly to scale. Some may be closer than others, but it should certainly give you a feel for the gun, either way.

Pretty sure they're somewhat to scale.

Honestly though I'm 5'7 myself and the M4 is a pretty good size for me and it doesn't feel like a "toy" in my hands.

Maybe it was you noticing the plastic and how light it was that made you think it was "too small". Handle a "real" airsoft M4 and see if you really like it. Either that or just go with the AK, there's nothing wrong with that and I'm even trying to get my hands on an AK to do a project on.
