In my m4 I shoot about 380fps with a .20g and 315fps with a .28g. Even though the FPS is lower with a heavier weight, the BB will travel farther because it will not sucumb to the effects of wind/air resistence as quickly as a lighter weight would. Coupled with a correct hop up setting you should notice a considerable distance between how far a .20g BB will travel and how far a .28g should. With a heavier weight BB you will notice that you will also have a much more effective ability to punch through brush such as leaves, grass and even small twigs and other rough foliage.

Which spring did you put in?

Currently the spring is a modify S100. Decent quality spring that keeps consistent over time. I used to use a tightbore but that put me out of that 375-380fps sweet spot that I wanted to be in so I took it out. The internals are majority systema with only a few modify parts.

I swear by PHX .28s. I like them so much I bought fifteen thousand.

The spring is unimportant. Velocity is not everything. My M15 shoots 385-ish with .2, and 320 with .28s. I get better range and accuracy at the lower velocity, and don't have to be as concerned with wind and foliage.
What's really limited on fields is not the velocity, it's the energy. That's why most chronying is done with .2s. A .2g @ 400 fps will have the same muzzle energy as a .28 at 325-ish. The goal is not to increase the velocity of your gun to shoot .28s at under 400 fps. Personally, if .3s weren't so expensive, I'd use those in my AEGs. Their range and accuracy are amazing. Right now, I only use .3s in my pistols. After Border Wars, I was shooting at a tree at least a good 125 (possibly more) feet away with my Glock and I could tag it pretty consistently.

No. I use them in both my MP5s, one is close to 400fps, the other is around 330fps, and 0.28g work great in both.

The best BB weight to use are the ones that provide the best energy coefficient (higher is better) :
400fps x .20G = 80 360fps x .25G = 90 330fps x .28G = 92.4 Last edited by Warlock; April 23rd, 2011 at 11:16.. |

This is a debate that was settled three years ago.

.36'ers in my western arms 1911 seem to reach out to about 50-60 feet before they drop (instantly)

I have a few 120ft kills under my belt from shooting 0.36g with my KSC G19. Guess you have to learn the ballistics of them from your gun, eh? Lol, yes, I lobbed, just like is require with real guns, I'd aim for the head at that distance and get chest hits.

All BB's have an optimal RELATIVE velocity of 320-340fps
So if your 280-300fps, use .20s up to 365, use .25s up to 400, use .28s up to 440, use .30s At 470+, you want .36s or .43s You'll get better range and accuracy from a .3g BB shooting 440fps than you would at 470fps. And you'll get better accuracy from a .28g BB at 380fps than you would from a .25 |

You should shoot the absolute heaviest BB that your hopup can handle. Easy way (but not the best) to test this is to put in the heaviest BB you can get your hands on and crank the hopup to max. And shoot a test string on semi and then auto. If the BB's are still arcing upwards and to the moon in their flight pattern go heavier. I shoot Madbull .36g from my 380FPS P90 best performance so far. I would shoot .43 from my 425fps M4 but it's fairly expensive so usually shoot .30-0.36. For hardball nothing lighter than .43g. |
