Is Star a clone?

Have a Star SCAR H with a broken bolt catch. I have been told that Star is no longer making AEGs. Is Star a clone of another manufacturer from whom I would be able to purchase this part? Or, might there be an identical part somewhere on another gun?

ARES and STAR are the same thing, so check a bolt catch for an ARES Scar

Where does one order parts?

Seems like pulling teeth to get the bits and pieces for these things. The manufacturer's web pages (Star/Ares) do not seem to have any concept of customer service parts needs. I have contacted a few Ares/Star retailers with very little success. Where is one supposed to search for these parts?

If you haven't already, contact OWA. They are an ARES distributor / retailer for Canada. They may be able to assist.

Ares spare/aftermarket parts are labelled as Shooter.

That is probably why you had a hard time finding the part.

I have been looking for Ares/Shooter stuff too. But it looks like they went out of business or something, almost everything sold out. Shooter TD rail covers are nice and cheap.

S&T makes the Ares guns, but they say they don't make Star. They started in 2009, which I believe is when Ares and Star had their falling out. I wonder if they just don't have the production capacity to keep up with demand?

I wouldn't call them a clone. Their guns offer numerous innovations that many other companies still have yet to adopt. Things such as working bolt catches, quick change spring sytems, etc. Too bad their quality control can be hit or miss.
