SOCOM GEAR MEU (Slide Stuck w/ Silencer)

Hey ASC,

I've had a Socom Gear Meu for about 3 months now without any problems.

Recently, I bought a few upgrade parts and have run into some technical issues.

I purchased:
A) Madbull 235mm precision barrel.

Problem is whenever the silencer is attached, everytime I shoot the slide would get stuck midway back and I'd have to FORCE the slide forward. However, without the silencer attached the gun would shoot flawless.

I don't want to run without a silencer attached as it would risk damage to the exposed long inner-barrel.

The problem seems to be the silencer. I am not familiar with GBB-P's so I find it peculiar that the silencer would cause this problem being as it is an external aesthitic part.

Anyhow, if anyone could help that would be great.

Illusion would know better (or at least have a more educated guess)....but I suspect that the barrel is not mating well with your slide.

The outer barrel needs to move back+down to allow the slide to retract. If it doesn't it will stick as you describe.

I believe a test for it is, when it's stuck, to push back slightly on the tip of the outer barrel. If the slide "unsticks"...then it's your barrel lugs not engaging properly with your slide...and or the barrel not caming back/down properly.

The problem is two-fold:

1) The outer barrel set you have is a traditional "tilting" style. Normally, when the slide cycles, the outer barrel will pull *back*, and the chamber will tilt *down* to allow the slide to fully clear the chamber. However, when the suppressor is attached, it creates too much forward weight on the outer barrel, causing the muzzle to pull down, and the top of the chamber chamber, being on the other end of the fulcrum, pushes *UP* against the bottom of the inside of the slide. This creates a lot of pressure. Thus, the problem of the slide sticking.

2) A long heavy silencer will cause the muzzle of the outer barrel to pull down more, which causes the chamber to apply more pressure against the underside of the slide.

The *PROPER* way to release the slide in this instance is to push the outer barrel IN. ie, push against the muzzle. This will relieve the pressure. By forcing the slide forward, you actually cause a lot of damage and excess wear to the chamber lugs in the slide, as well as to the chamber itself. By pushing the slide forward, you actually cause the slide to bind up against the outer barrel even harder. The harder you hit the slide forward, the harder the two will lock up, making the problem worse and increasing wear.

There are a few solutions to the problem:

1) Use a lighter/shorter silencer. The LESS muzzle weight you have hanging off the outer barrel, the less pressure the top of the chamber will apply to the underside of the slide. This is why it works fine without the silencer.

2) Polish the top of the chamber AND the underside of the slide where the two parts contact. This will hopefully reduce friction against the two, and help to minimize the lock up between the two parts.

3) Grease the underside of the slide and the top of the chamber and its lugs very well. Again, this is to reduce friction between the two parts to help minimize lock up.

4) Upgrade to a "fixed" type outer barrel system, like the ILLusion Kinetics type. These do NOT tilt, so it greatly reduces the problems typically associated with tilting barrels. The caveat, is that no testing has been done with Socom Gear pistols before, and these were designed to work specifically with Tokyo Marui pistols. I am not aware of what will work with Socom Gear. If you are a handy DIY kind of guy, some users have been successful in modifying their outer barrels to work in the same way. Some of these users may be able to provide more detail on this, but I believe they filed down the top of their chamber and/or filed out the chamber lugs on the underside of the slide.

LOL...awesome..I'm still scratching my head as to how simple it was to solve this problem.

You mentioned too much muzzle weight hanging off the barrel, so I took out all those fabric rings stuffed inside the silencer and viola! The slide is now cycling fairly proper. I think I'll also cut a cm off the silencer as well to reduce weight.

Hi Illusion; Do you happen to have access to such a barrell for the TM - G18C ?
I looked through your parts list but I couldn't find a barrel for a Glock.

Or do you have one for a TM - 1911 MEU ?

If you do have either of these barrels, I would assume that it would be threaded to accept a silencer, right?
If so, could you tell me what kind of thread this would be? (male, female, CW or CCW)

Please point me at a link where I could see one and possibly buy one.
