1) Systema doesn't make their motors. In the Gen 3 era, the motors they used (480) were made by a very good company. The car market dried up in Japan, and this manufacturer went under. They designed a new motor, one with higher speed and more torque, and found a new company to build it. The QC was not there, and the motor would fail due to poor winding techniques. About 1-2 in 10 motors will fail at the windings, and are not repairable. 2) The connection of the windings to the commutator was done with a folded tab. This folding did not penetrate the Litz-coating (varnish) on the winding, thus making the contact poor. This can be cleaned up with a scraping of the Litzing off the winding and soldering the joint with a silver solder and flux. Newer motors come with this done, but they didn't address the winding issue, so motors can still fail at that point. 3) The communtator itself was not true. It would often have the points set poorly in the resin during manufacture, and would be all sorts of shapes other than a perfect circle. This is a very easy fix. A few minutes on a motor lathe cleans that up. An alternate fix Systema thought would work was to have 30% silver brushes. The older brushes would skip across the point gaps, and create arc damage and leave carbon residue in the end bell. The newer brushes would do it less, but it wasn't a solution really. Combined with a true comm, the brushes are rock solid. Considering the issue stemmed primarily from the windings, there is a rewound armature done for Tackleberry in the U.K. which addresses this issue along with the other easier fixes mentioned above. He is the global PTW God, all mods and upgrades in this fashion come from him. He can sell you a new motor with a redone armature and they are rock solid. Sorry for the long-winded response, but you wanted to know, and it's a little indepth to understand the issue involved. Not like it's going to help you much though, PTWs are a hard-on for the Ohio ATF and the American distributor can not get any. You could if you ordered yourself from overseas, but try from Tackleberry in the U.K. and you can get the motor and modded hop-up as well as moisture proofing the boards.

As for rails and junk, you can use RS or airsoft. It's all about what's inside that makes this gun the champ along with the fitment of it all. The PTW comes with a commercial spec buffer tube and not mil-spec, but that can be changed by going with a lipo.
