Working on an M21 right now actually.

There are very few differences really. The original ones used an ART Telescopic sight, and were just regular m14's with the selector switch pulled out of them (Fixed to semi). Later one they had their old stocks replaced with fiberglass ones.

Nowadays, they equip their m21's with Leupold M3 scopes, thats really just about it as far as I know.

If you're trying to build one you can get away with using the original sights, the only difference if you're making an airsoft one is the removal of the selector switch keeping it in semi.

The United States Marines wanted an accurate sniper rifle during the Vietnam War. The M14 was selected because of its accuracy, reliability, and the ability for a quick second shot. As a result, in 1969, the Rock Island Arsenal converted 1,435 National Match (target grade) M14s by adding a Leatherwood 3–9x Adjustable Ranging Telescope and providing National Match grade ammunition. It was designated the M21 in 1975. The M21 remained the Army's primary sniper rifle until 1988, when it was replaced by the M24 Sniper Weapon System.

wiki - m21 rifle

I belive thats what you wanted.
