PSG-1 Problems

Hey guys

I basicly have all the parts for a full tune up kit though I was wondering if someone could please give me a schematic or show me where I can understand the proper bearing and shim set up as well as timing for the TM PSG-1. If you have other recomendation on upgrading the psg-1 that would be greatly helpful.

Thanks guys

First of all, there is no such thing as gear timing.

Shimming depends on each individual mechbox and gears, so it's not like a recipe that works for everything.

Bearings bushings....don't use those. Use solid bushings.

PM Illusion, he's done the FTK's for PSG-1

And I thought there was timing for the PSG-1, for the ejection port cover.

The "timing" is primitive. Even if you screw it up, just one shot will correct it.

As for shimming... find any generic shimming guide to find out how to shim properly. If you bought an actual Systema FTK, it should come with a shimming diagram, but if you want to do it properly, learn how to shim.

Don't follow a picture, because not all gears/bushings/bearings/gearboxes do not have the same dimensions, especially since all of those products are die casted

Hey Illusion Maybe you could give me some sugguestions on the most probable timing line ups that have worked for you?

The nub on the sector gear that engages the tappet plate should line up with and not surpass the top level of the lower half of the gearbox. It doesn't get any simpler than that. If you have no idea where that is, just put it to "roughly 1 o'clock" and you'll be safe.

You can't possibly screw it up. Even if you had the sector gear rotated 180 degrees to what it should be, you'll know right away because you can't close up the gearbox.
There's no such thing as "timing". It's a myth.

Search for schematic blow up diagrams of the PSG-1 gearbox, it shows you exactly how the gears would look when assembled properly.

Illusion is incorrect. As there is no "timing" for version 2 & 3 gearboxes, but there is on version 4 gearboxes. If you do not have the bevel gear allinged with the sector gear properly the piston will not stay in the fully cocked position. The bevel gear has an anti reversal lever to keep the gears from winding back down. This is what the decocking lever behind the trigger is for. The spur gear need not be in any set position.

If you are still having issiues with you psg-1 not shooting or you have double trigger pull then check your timing

cool thread necro.

psg-1's don't use version 2 or 3 gearboxes.

Hence the reason it NEEDS to be timed.

(sorry I just re-read my last post and saw that I was missing a line. *shakes his fist at his iPhone.*)

That's not really "timing" per se. Even in v2/3 gearboxes, it's always recommended to back the bevel gear up against the anti reversal latch before placing the sector gear. There's nothing different there when it comes to v4 gearboxes.

This shouldn't matter depending on what type of gear set you have. If you have either a Marui or Systema bevel gear with just two lobes, then yes, you'll have to back it on to the anti-reversal latch before engaging the sector gear.

Agreed illusion. If you do not back the bevel gear aginst the stop latch and set the sector it will not fire effectively.

Last edited by Snipezilla; September 22nd, 2010 at 18:26.. Reason: Not everyone knows that seating the bevel gear is recommened.

@ ILLusion: What do you call the relationship between the bevel gear and sector gear?
