battery issues

hello every one
today i plaid a game of 5 or 6 hours. when i got home i charged my battery with my smart charger, it has 2 settings, 1 A and 2 A, i putt it to 2 A after about 10 minuets i went in to my room for some reason and smelt something burning. and no surprise my battery was REALLY HOT and it was sizzling loudly . my battery is 9.6 V.
If anyone knows what could have happened and how to prevent it next time please tell me

NEVER charge a battery higher than 1C (that is, if the battery is 1,000 mah, don't charge it above 1 amp). The battery should be at least 2,000 Mah to charge at 2 amps.

If it was sizzling I'd say there's a good chance you damaged some of the cells.

Also, if it was a battery that came with an airsoft gun, it was probably a cheap battery. Spend the $40 and get a good battery.

Well you didn't say if it was small cells or large cells, and what the mAh rating is.

I'd say sizzling, means bad. Take the time with the lowest possible setting for charging, and get a quality battery.

As was stated, I bet you charged a mini battery at 2A. You can't ever fast charge ANY batteries, it's just not possible, it kills the battery.
Your voltage has nothing to do with the amperage that you charge a battery at, it only changes the voltage your charger needs to put into the battery.
Don't charge a battery at 2A unless it's 2200mah or more.
Pick yourself up an intellect or Elite NiMH battery pack

I charged my 1500 8.4 V elite nimh on my universal smart charger today. it did the same thing. pretty sure it's the whole battery problem though. soon as i heard sizzles and burned smell i took it right off. It turns the motor just fine, but is too weak to turn the whole mechbox. i ordered a new and stronger battery.
