ARES's V6 Gearbox Questions.

Hi,

Just have a few questions about the V6 gearbox (Specifically the ARES TAR-21)

I was wondering what kind of air nozzle, piston head and piston is compatible with it. Would the V2 parts work?

Also is there an aftermarket MARS sight or some rail I can add to the gun to replace the stock ARES MARS sight?

Thanks in advance.

It's not really a version 6, it's probably better to just call it the ARES Tavor mechbox.

Standard linear nozzle, no indexing feature. Not sure what the air nozzle dimensions are off hand, there are many different nozzle lengths in existence. The trick is picking the right length.

The piston head is standard v2/3/everything. The piston is classic Marui profile (non-side-reinforced first tooth).

ARES makes a replacement top rail and side rail.

Thanks a bunch! One more question: If I wanted to put in a 6.01 tightbore, would it be a problem because of the non-standard hopup?

EDIT:
Where would I buy the rail attachment? (Or am I just stupid and can't find it on their site?)

The hopup is non-standard, but the inner barrel is standard.

Try contacting Airsoftparts.ca, he should be able to help you.

And for Cylinder Head, it uses a standard V6 I assume?

As I've said, it's not a "V6" mechbox. So I can't really recommend parts based on using the Marui V6 as a reference.

According to ARES, the Tavor uses the same cylinder head as their M60 Series. I don't know what the precise difference is between the ARES M60 cylinder head and other versions. ARES makes an upgraded version with double O-rings and stainless steel.

I thought the tavor shipped with a 6.03 tightbore installed.

You may find better help here at airsoft mechanics, and another thread on ASM here.

Thanks!

And yea it does come with a tightbore, but I'm going to add a 500mm tightbore barrel and extend the outer barrel as opposed to the 380mm stock. Possible a 6.01 tightbore

Another question:

What tappet plate does the ARES TAR-21 use? I heard it was similar to the V2 tappet, but slightly different in size. Is it compatible with the V6 tappet plate? Or do I have to buy one and modify it?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, as far as I have learned upgrading a bit my own CTAR (The first version of Tavor, with short barrel and MARS Sight):

The barrel is a 6,03; I think you can upgrade up to a 6,02, but a 6,01 looks like a bit too extreme for me. I'm planning a upgrade to 6,02.

The short version of Tavor have a 407mm length barrel.

And the nozzle marked as M4/M16A2 fits perfect. You have to change this, because the factory nozzle is crappy, and after a few thousand of rounds have a lot of loss, and become erosionated in the hop side.

Why do you want to change the tapped plate?

It's not actually a tightbore, the standard ARES barrel diameter is 6.08mm, though it's somewhat flattering for people to be happy enough with the consistency of the inner barrel that they think it is a tightbore.

The CTAR's inner barrel length is officially 395mm, the TAR is 495mm.

Yea, I just bought a Prometheus M16A2/M4 nozzle. The reason why I'm asking what tappet plate works is just for future reference. So if my tappet plate breaks in the future, I know what to replace it with.

Noone agrees in its size, I've readed all about it, but most people says is 6,03. It fires pretty straight, that's true, at least if the hop and nozzle is OK.

I think that next week will dismount barrel, and measure it in length and diameter.

I'm triying to make a list of compatible parts, making some research in the web (Boh...) and asking Ares. AFAIK, looks like most Gearbox V2 parts (Cylinder head, anti-reversal, etc...) are compatible with tavor. The tapped plate surely is too, but you'll have to shave it a bit.

Also, I think the FN-FAL Hopup chamber from Ares is the same hop chamber using the Tavor; Let's see if Ares answers me.
