Painting Guns

I searched around ASC and google and couldn't find anything useful...

I have the cansoft ICS with the tinted reciever so the markings are stamped on.

Is it possible to paint the lower receiver and keep the markings or I would have to paint over them?

Try painting inside the body, but make sure you use tape or use something to cover the trademarks on the outside. I made the mistake of not using tape and painted everything by mistake

Painting the inside will make the outside look very glossy and strange. It will also appear to have a film on it (which is in reality a thick coat of translucent plastic).

Are the trademarks stamped or engraved, or just painted on?

You could paint it on the outside and fill the trades in with white crayon if the trades are engraved. I've been told this works on the slides of pistols, not sure about AEG bodies.

It works on AEG bodies.

That's what I was hinting at in the above post.
If they are painted on, I have no fucking clue how to preserve them, however

Translucent masking tape, a VERY sharp razor blade, and a steady firm, gentle hand.

Place the masking tape over the trades, with a razor (watch the wrists...) trace the trades and remove the excess paint. When you've covered them all. Spray the gun. Do several coats and let it dry between coats for one day. Remove the tape. Now you have see through trades on a "black" gun. lolz.

Just know what you're getting into.

I've tried it and it's no easy task. If you knife isn't razor fucking sharp it will drag, ruining all the work you've done.

I've seen a few vids on youtube on how to paint clear receivers but as far as authentic markings go, I don't think there's much you can do.

What my friend did, was taking a razor blade, and cutting one fine scratch all along the markings

After, you spray everything black, when its dry, you fill the lines you made with the razor blade with a crayola, it will look like engraved reciever.

worked awesome on his. but takes time too, and if you make a mistake, well, you now have a new scratch.

I masked mine by dripping wax around the points that I did now want paint to get to. I then used a flat dull blade (a flat head screwdriver with a fine point) to gently scrape away the extra wax around the trade marks. I think it worked quite well. I also did a full disassembly of the receiver (removal of the selector switch, bolt catch, ect ect) to ensure that no parts became jammed or stuck by the paint. I painted the inside as well as the outside using Krylon mat black paint to ensure that even if there was scratching on the outside of the receiver the black color would be maintained. Here are my results.

I've also used a wax pencil, used for writing on tires. Works great!
