You're 32 yrs old. You know what's right and wrong. You know the consequences. Do whatever you want.
I will tell you though...(not from first hand experience, but from seeing it happen to others)...getting pinched at the border for smuggling a restricted item can be an absolutely unpleasant experience. And...it's the gift that keeps on giving. It will be noted on file, there are consequences everytime you travel outside and return to Canada (and everyone travelling with you).
Explain to your wife why she needs to be detained for 3 hours while her bags are searched because you got caught smuggling a toy gun. I know a local guy's girlfriend who is righteously pissed everytime they come back from vacation.
