Thanks a bunch Hicapa guys, very informative as always can't expect any less from Hicapa king/addicts.
Finally acquired a actual new Hicapa 5.1 without any problems to fix, Yay! One thing is still on my mind I remember Illusion said it depends on where and when the slide was made is there a general rule of thumb on a certain year make that I should look out for? I am guessing the slides that you do not have to file down are the newer ones? I am also assuming the main places to get the metal slides - Illusion - WGC - Den Trinity - UNCompany |

Lanny, Airsoft-Fire is just a reseller, who sources from ProG4... who is also my manufacturer.
If you want to get upgrade products for your Hi-Capa from ProG4, Airsoft Fire, Davidson Customs, Airsoft Surgeon, Creation, etc, then come talk to me. I'm your Canadian source for them and can provide pricing lower than if you ordered on your own from overseas. Even custom jobs I can get done, although one-off productions will be very expensive. |

I wanted to know what exactly the "6065 / 7075" numbers represented when people referred to 6065 aluminum (or 7075) while talking about the material of the slides so I looked it up and I came across this article (link at the end of paragraph). I don't know much about slides so I'm hoping somebody can enlighten me and tell me why not all manufacturers and metal smiths work with the 7075 if they want to make a better product. There's also different ways of treating the aluminum that most, of if not all manufacturers leave out. Read the information in the following link and you'll see what I mean (unless you already know the answer):

It refers to the purity and grade of the metal, as well as the level of tempering the material has been through.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6061_aluminium_alloy Most manufacturers and metal smiths do not work with 7075 for airsoft slides, because the stock is simply more expensive and it is unnecessary to build it with that much strength. Otherwise, they could build it from even stronger alloys. 7075 is slightly harder to work with than 6061 (shortened tool life creates higher overhead costs), and quite honestly... you don't need it to be that strong for airsoft use. With the new ILLusion Kinetics outer barrels, impact fatigue against the slide is now negated to ZERO, so that type of strength and added cost is simply unnecessary overkill. Yes, the product will be stronger, but for what? If the product experiences minimal wear and fatigue to begin with, what's the point of dumping money in to it to produce it from 7075? Or Titanium? Or some other mega super uber unobtanium alloy?

I've been running a AS 6061 slide with a guarder 150% recoil spring and TM plastic barrel.... they seem to be fine. O.o
