That doesn't mean the battery is "weak." Again, "weak" is vague. You mean it's a dead battery or it is uncharged? It won't fire at all. But comparing a 8.4V and a 9.6V, the 8.4V is "weaker" I guess but will/should not lower your FPS. The battery isn't propelling the BB, the compressed air generated by the piston and spring do.

What my question is, does the element of surprise work on a typical airsoft match?

The anti-reversal latch prevents the unwinding of a gun (reverse operation) to allow the spring to compress the air in the cylinder (thus firing a BB) until the cycle is complete.

A weak battery WILL NOT LOWER YOUR VELOCITY!!!

PERIOD!!!

A lack of understanding of the mechanics of a airsoft gun does not need to facilitate a ridiculous discussion of "possibilities".

This thread did not need to progress beyond about 3 replies.

Wow!!

If you want to see a 9.6V with a "weak" charge left fire just watch my VFC M4 SOPMOD full loadout video in the media section. Only a COMPLETELY DEAD battery will not fire at all. It could barely retract the spring and gave just a little pop when pulling the trigger. After I recharged it, it was firing full throttle again.

you need to buy a chronograph and make a cute little video review of that showing the same fps with the weak and the charged battery

It doesn't mater how loud the "POP" is, the FPS will still be the same. You're not thinking about how an AEG works. The FPS is determined by the spring and the battery only helps pull that spring. For every shot, the spring has to be fully retract for the shot to happen. If not (like a "weak battery"), then you will not get a shot and your piston will be fully back and compressing the spring. Hope that helps.

I am sorry guys, but yeaht it is possible to lower the FPS, maybe about 10 FPS but when the battery is that low it is virtually not gamable. I will explain myself:

I changed the spring on my AK105 recently (from an S90 to S100) I put a supposedly brand new battery (that I though was fully charged)...When I tried the gun, the rate of fire was really slow and the gun was constantly semi locking (had to swith to full auto alot). I chronied the gun and I was constantly at 350 FPS.

So I decided to charge the battery and yes it was the problem and when I chronied my gun again with the full rate of fire of a 9.6V, I was constantly at 360 FPS. So I got a 10 FPS drop because of the battery being weaker...but then again I would have never gamed my gun like that.

So is it possible...YES... is it practical...NO!

That FPS variance is within the variance margin of a lot of chronographs. Lighting, axis of barrel alignment, distance of muzzle from sensors...they all affect readings.

A wild guess is that the first set of shots loosened up your piston head o-ring and litterally warmed up any cylinder grease which does cause a piston to move faster (if the rifle/grease is cold).

We had some early season games this year where LOTS of guys seemed to chrony really low...but ripping off a burst of full auto before chronying resulted in a "normal"/expected FPS reading.

But jeez...40 posts into it and I'm starting to be convinced that a weak battery will affect FPS! My FPS must be dropping all day long at a game...my 400fps rifle must not be shooting more than 350 by the end of the day....

What a crock of shit...if you believe that battery power affects FPS in a normal/typical spring gun AEG then you need to give your head a shake and look elsewhere for explanations.

Well man I am sorry but if it is not the spring it was phenomenal coincidence! low batt reading was 345-350 and I shot about 20 times not only 2 or 3. With battery fully charged it was 360-365 FPS again a good 20 shots

Tbh I don't give a damn! It is just that I was seeing people posting IT'S IMPOSSIBLE BLA BLA BLA. And with my experience it really seem to be possible. But like I said with this 10 FPS drop the rate of fire was so slow that it was constantly semi locking in a game it would have been a long time before you would have changed your battery...

this is like saying having less gas in your car's gas tank makes your car drive lower, it is retarded.

So you use your experience which has ZERO technical explanation (and you are in fact using your non-explanation as the grounds for your "proof) against numerous seasoned vets and guntechs that have sound logic and the technical knowhow explaining why battery power has zero effect on the FPS.

Dude chill out a bit, I was just saying that if it is not due to low battery than it was weird coincidence that this variation in FPS happened exactly when I changed the battery that's all! And can you please give me also technical explanation and the scientific reason why it could not be possible beyond any doubt? I woud like to hear it

Been ruminating on this one. It would be theoretically possible to increase fps with higher battery power and vice versa. When dealing with such high speeds (almost everyone's gun cycles 10-20 times per second! When dealing with such speeds there could be significant "throw" of the piston that actually gains a couple % more compression than when the sector gear is slow moving. 3% more compression would yield the 10 fps change that Jagdalex has seen.

I now own a high end chronograph, the CED Millenium2. I intend to test this; indoors so there are no temperature or wind or lighting variables.

I am glad you posted Jagdalex, because your data backs up the theory that I was going to post about this morning anyway. M102404 brings up a good point about lighting, barrel angle, etc in his post so I will do my best to eliminate these variables. The indoor location will remove most. If I use a "bench rest" in front of the chrono and just swap batteries from 7.2v to 8.4v to 9.6v I should eliminate the rest. Then I will post the results.
